Sinb Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I prefer the Epihone one because it has a black trim. I havent played either of them, so this is about looks. By the way, How do I make this a Poll?
charlie brown Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 OK, I'll play...The Alpine White Gibson LP Studio, with gold hardware, and Ebony fingerboard, is a beauty! CB
generation zero Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I don't really care for solid colors versus a nice woodgrain finish, but having to pick, I would say Gibson, mainly for the neck inlays. Dots aren't really my thing, LOL.
bluelake07 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Not usually a fan of gold hardware, but the Alpine White Gibson is sweet.
thunderstruck507 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I hate gold hardware and hate dots, but love white LPs
AyushPresley Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Gibson Studio anyday.. !!! I prefer Trapezoid inlays ... Compare your self.... Epiphone Gibson
generation zero Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 If only the Gibson came with chrome hardware and open coil humbuckers... That would be ideal, IMO.
Hiberna Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 id probably go for the epiphone, purely because it aint as "Bling" like. i prefer the cold looks of the chrome on the epi. besides gibson will probably rip you off for it
AyushPresley Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I don't prefer the Gold hardware either..but I like covered pickups more..
animalfarm Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Definitely the GIBSON. I normally go for woodgrain guitars, but this one I WOULD buy for myself - it looks clean, visually appealing. How about a MAPLE fretboard for this one? Regarding the Epi, there's too much silver goin' on with this one - looks cold, stark, too utilitarian. The Silver DOTS overwhelm the eye - Fretboard dots, pickup and mounting bracket dots (18 for each pickup), plus the DOTS for the pickup guard... Looks like a cr@pload of rivets on a white guitar, not as sweet as the gold which breaks the guitar up into complimentary sections and also compliments the tuner key color. I suppose it depends on your personal taste. I just don't want a guitar that looks like it was fabbed with rivets...
pohatu771 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 If only the Gibson came with chrome hardware and open coil humbuckers... That would be ideal' date=' IMO.[/quote']You can get Classic White with chrome, so it's just a matter of taking the covers off. I prefer the Gibson... I've had a thing for white Les Pauls since seeing David Cook play his on American Idol last season. Not that I watch it regularly.
generation zero Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 You can get Classic White with chrome' date=' so it's just a matter of taking the covers off.[/quote'] Actually, I was just talking to the guys at my local Gibson dealer, and they were saying that Gibson just put out a memo that they are discontinuing gold hardware on everything but the custom... So the white/chrome combo will be the norm from now on. Sweet deal for me, that means it won't be a special order when I finally get around to getting one, LOL! Then it'll just be a matter of deciding what wood to make my pickguard and truss rod cover out of this time... Maybe instead of padouk I'll use a flame maple, and try my hand at a sunburst finish. A sunburst finish pickguard on a white studio would be pretty hot, IMO!
animalfarm Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Discontinue Gold Hardware??? If true, who does Gibson think they are - Gibson? "You'll take what we give you and LIKE it"? Uhhhh....Nope. Not for that amount of green being forked over, I'll get what I want. A rather inept marketing move IMO... Say, how does one post an image in a post in this forum? I click on the image icon, but instead of allowing me to select from "my pictures", it inserts "img/img" into the text line. Wassup wit' dat?
IntelligentAl Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 As much as I like my Epi Studio, the Gibby does look a lot better in white. It looks tidier than the Epi, and I personally like the gold hardware. I can live without it, but I like it.
charlie brown Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Yeah, I don't have a gold hardware "fetish" or anything, but there are certain guitars that it just looks "Classy/Awesome" on, and the Gibson Alpine White, Studio is one of those...IMHO. As to Gibson doing away with gold hardware, except on "Custom" LP's SG's etc. Maybe, as standard practice...but I would be willing to bet, if you really wanted it, you could order it that way. But, who knows??? It IS "Gibosn," after all. LOL! CB

Sinb Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Maybe im thinking of the wrong guitar lol... Oh crap... I just realized I meant the Epiphone Les Paul CUSTOM in Alpine white. Not the epiphone studio, that one sucks. Alpine White Epiphone Les Paul FTW!
AyushPresley Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 ya the custom looks good to specially in White...I love it..but u can't change my mind..Gibson it is..
HotRodVern Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Shouldn't the question be which one sounds and play's better? I have tried them both and for my money I will take the Epi hands down. Then I can afford to go out and buy 2 more guitars. I possess an Epi Alpine White LP Studio and an Epi S310 Strat so you can see I'm a fan.
