ganon391 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Sup Epiphone fourm guys. I have an Epiphone G-400 SG, and lately I've noticed that my guitar output jack is screwing up. I've tried tightening and loosening it to no avail. It will work if I push the cable to one side of the jack, but then I have one free hand, and I cant play guitar with one hand! I have some pics of the wiring, and the guitar it self. The time stamp is wrong, I'm too lazy to set the date. The quality sucks, sorry guys. The guitar itself. EDIT: Wrong pic xD and 2 pics of the headstock NAME THE 4 ALBUMS UP ON MY WALL and the back
1999nbmZ1281734025 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Since you already have the rear plate off, try bending the tab that sticks up on the jack in a little bit. You don't need to bend it far, just a 1/16th or so. You could also try looking in there while you are moving the cord around. That way you may be able to see what is loosing contact when the plug is moved.
TWANG Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 wires shouldn't run through the jack at all.. they should be clear..all of them.. you should be able to see, with cover off, if the plug is solid in the jack.. you should be able to look at the hot and ground connections and see or feel if they are solid. sometimes it's just a bad solder joint.. tension on the prong that the tip connects to is often not enough and as said above, you can bend it in a bit. IF that prong feels really thin.. then eventually it will bend back.. so go to rat shack and see if they have an output jack that seems better.. only a couple of bucks. switchcraft if they have 'em. but anything that doesn't have thin metal on that prong. and test using another cable.. in case it's the soldering in the jack of the cable you're using.
