wheatlands Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I just picked up a Casino, and new to the forum. I am really enjoying the Casino. I'm thinking about picking up a Les Paul, either an Epi Prophecy GX or a Gibson Studio. I priced them both out at Music123, and Musicians Friend. They are within $100 dollars of each other. I know it is somewhat like comparing apples and oranges. Since I have both a Gibson and Epiphone, I have no preference. Just wondering what everybody thinks.

charlie brown Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 100 dollars difference? Then, by all means...GIBSON! CB
wheatlands Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Let me rephrase this question. I guess what I was really asking is are you better off with a top of the line product from Epi or a bottom of the line from Gibson? Some companies are not as concerned about their bottom line products as they are the top of the line stuff. Maybe this question makes more sense.
sexygibson Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Play them all and see which one is to your liking. No one can tell you which is better. I have owned several Gibson L.P. Studio models and, besides my Studio Lite model with the 60s slim taper neck, prefered the neck profile on my Epis. dont forget to check out Elitists also.
IntelligentAl Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 A Gibson LP Studio is by no means a bottom of the line model. It is basically a Standard without the trimmings. So, for $100 difference, i would definately go with the Gibson. However, I would probably try them both first, just in case.
captmidnight Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Try them both...the necks on the Gibson Studios can be a tad chunky...haven't had the chance yet to get ahold of the Prophecy but I do like how it looks. Capt
Marcelo1281734115 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Just for economic reasons alone, I would go for the Gibson. This guitar will hold its value better, so in case it does not work out, you can resell it and get most of your money back.
antwhi2001 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 As lomg as you don't mind the chunky neck......Gibson Gibson Gibson. The studio has the same quality electrics, wood and hardware as a full spec Gibson LP.
custer Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I would go for the Gibby, but try a few out if ou can. As stated before the necks can be chunky. I like that but not everyone does.
fenrirlupus Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 depends. gibson shop quality, or extra fret access, pretty finish, coil splitting... i think i'd want the gibson myself, but it's your choice, and nobody will hold it against your if you got the epiphone... they're both very nice.
