Lord Summerisle Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I was browsing the Sweetwater site this morning, definitely not thinking about buying a Gibson SG Standard, no way. But guess what? They have Epiphone Elitist Casinos actually in stock, for the first time in ages. In both the sunburst and natural colors. Man, I was sorely tempted...However, they are actually the same price as the ebony Gibson SG Standard I'm gassing for like crazy ($1500), so if I'm going to drop $1500 it's gonna be on the SG. If anyone is looking for one of these, here are the links. Otherwise (like me) I think it's OK to just ogle. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ELCSVSNH/ http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ELCSNANH/
wrighty3693 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 how is it america gets guitars cheaper than the UK the Gibson Sg Standard in America is £800 whereas in the UK it costs £1000
Lord Summerisle Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Last time I had the privilege of visiting your 'kingdom by the sea' I was kind of shocked to see that everything had 17.5% sales tax included in the ticket price. I guess that accounts for some of it. I guess there's also the transportation costs and so on, too. Mind you, I think your figures are a little out. At the moment, the US Dollar is trading at $1 = £0.68, so a $1500 guitar would cost £1024 today. Right now G.A.K. are selling SG Standards for £977 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/gibson-sg-standard/1081 so you Brits are getting a heck of a deal! If it stays like that I might vacation in London again this year.

twiggy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 wrighty, the "rip off england" as the lady from parcelforce office described it to me adds 22% import charge on everything that exceeds price of 36 pounds! that's why we love our american friends for not having something britain is proud off
