the new model grovers

Recommended Posts

Say' date=' speaking of heads splitting.

which has never happened at TWANGS shop.

what happened to old Marxy?

He got reamed!

tWANG[/quote']Your "shop"?

Is that the place that has cranked out an astounding 20 modified headstocks with no problems?

Again...back to truth...square one.

FACT: You dismiss a tried and true method, recommended by world class luthiers for decades. You use your excuse that you've done it 20 times so far with no problems. Sounds to me like you’re a hack.

Wait...that was the conclusion a few pages ago. So....nothing has changed.

Ah this was fun.

time to go watch daily show!

TWANG

The only show right now is you. And it's not very funny.

You remind me of the guy who's "shop" did 20 head gasket jobs on cars without using a torque wrenched to tighten the head bolts. His reasoning was, "hey I did it 20 times and they are all ok".

Wait wait wait...hold the phone....Wait...I understand the whole root of the problem now. You simply can't afford a tapered reamer. Why didn't you just say so? I know the hacked pick guard biz is not exactly making you rich, but hey, perhaps you can find a used one and do the job the right way?

Any guitar "tech" that talks about drilling a headstock should not touch a guitar. You are a clueless hack.:-k
Hey Marx , who made you God ? I'm a luthier with over 30 yrs experience .I build hand crafted guitars of my own design ,as well as mods and repairs . If anybody is a clueless hack , mate , it's you . If you can't be constructive , then maybe you should refrain from comment . Axegrinder !!

As a dis-interested observer I'll simply add this... if I did a test of a technique that yielded a positive, damage-free result 20 times in a row I would be of a mindset to continue to press my luck to see if it would run out; or if I had just stumbled onto an new, (not necessarilly improved), but different method of accomplishing a frequently utilized task. If things were done the same way forever how could anything ever improve? I realize progress sometimes isn't- but I

do believe that there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Likewise, you can have more than one Ace cat skinner each with their own Ace method of de-furring the feline in question. As far as head gaskets go... if you've changed 20 sets of head gaskets without a leak or a problem you should qualify for ASE certification considering the level of boneheads today that sport the patch on their shop jerseys. Right or wrong, approved method, or teaching an old dog a new trick, if it works well, (or dare we dream better), where is there a problem in the implementation of any new way of doing something if it ultimately works for the experienced user of the process. I Recently toured the KOMATSU factory, (guess by the name the country of their origin), which was a textbook example of efficiency. One of the primary ways they constantly upgrade that standard is suggestions from, ready?, workers on the assembly lines. The tour guide not only mentioned this, but introduced some workers that had found a better way to put stuff together. Know what else, these forward thinkers were compensated for their imput if the idea made it to the production line. Many times these suggestions were delivered by the worker through an interpreter to a team of six Japan sourced efficiency experts that constantly rotate through each production facility on a circuit. In person. Not some random index card shoved into a rarely opened forgotten box somewhere. Compensation translated into to time or financial gains not just a "Atta-Boy" and a choice parking space for a month. This is how things improve, by those in the field, looking for a better way to strip the hide off of ol' Tom. Dan E. himself didn't just write the books or do the videos based on how he got every thing right the first time... techniques he developed occured to him as simply a better way to do something. If a better way was ever presented, I'm sure he'd either adopt it or modify it toward what worked better from his experince to draw upon, but he certainly wouldn't dismiss it nor would he fail to analyze it for any merits it might have to upgrade a proceedure. The intelligent realize that you never stop learning and to think you know it all is proof that you don't.

And who is the winner of this personally battle?

Did this help anybody here?

Oh I forgot' date=' maybe it helps to "self-satisfy" some of you.

Peter[/quote']

It did me.

I was due.

I never do this to anyone.

And I asked these guys time and again, as well as made appeal to the group, to

stop this personality stuff.

And when I saw him stick his foot in it, I went for it.

And I had a great time.

And laugh, lord, how I laughed.

And yes, it was petty, and it was immature, and it did nobody

but me

any good.

and I'm sorry about that.

but I felt I had no other option as it seemed like it was never going to stop, and there's no reason for me to

just keep taking it while they always walk away knowing nobody will do that to them.

I've been informed by forum mods that they wish all of us to stop.

Better words on this subject were never heard by me.

I'm fine with that. It's all I wanted.

Disagree with ideas, opinions, techniques, choices.. that's fine. That's free discussion.

But insults and outright lies, there's no reason or need for.

I'm not a hack. I shouldn't have to be labelled a hack.

I proved that. I'm totally satisfied that this thread should prove an end to both that accusation and the childish

behavior it sprang from.

Again, I apologise to all for this.

But let's be clear, they put my back against the wall, time and again.

Now.. it's over. Good!

I'm happy to let it pass.

and I thank all those who bothered to read through all of this and understand that

building guitar is an art and a craft, that creativity is important, that different ways are part of

the idea of form following function, that what works, works.

I was using a pick and fingers to play long before I ever heard of any pro doing it.

That doesn't make me a virtuoso, but it's still a virtuoso technique.

I never tried to claim credit for that.

I was removing strat/tele bridge saddle height adjustment screws, shortening them so they didn't stick up

when palm muting, long before I ever heard of anyone else doing that.

It doesn't make me a genius. But it's still a good idea.

All I want in here is the fun of talking guitars.. and helping each other to better understanding

and happy pickin.

thanks for your input and thanks for all your contributions.

I'm just finishing up a tele build for my friends church..

got an angel inlaid on the top..

and when the neck finish drys I'm installing a set of the new

grover locking tuners with the knob ala sperzel.

I've got a set of sperzels here' date=' too, so I'll compare them as best I can and report back.

note: though they have the same angled screw hole mount on the back.. they are not in the same place

as the grovers, non locking, that I took off this neck.

they cover the old holes though.

they have a little more weight to them than the previous locking tuners..

they look waaay more sexy.

I unpacked them and put them on another neck.. not on a body.. and they feel great. really smooth action.

TWANG[/quote']

Well I just ordered my Locking Grovers. They won't be in for a couple of weeks though so I can't give you any more feedback than that.

They look exactly the same as the regular Grovers I have now. Hopefully they will slide right in!

By the way, 85 Canadian Bucks, plus tax for the new ones.

They are a bit more spendy. Still less than Sperzels I think.

I haven't had time to try these six in lines out yet..

too darn busy.

but soon.

That's why you and your buddy epirat have been banned from another forum.

Thanks for the laugh you moron![-o<

I didn't even address anything to twangbanger on this thread, I addressed sg666.

So the lunatic gave himself away.

Really smart dude.

And you absolutely will not be along anytime mr. smartguy. We have things in place to make sure you don't.

I didn't read the pm epirat.

So if you and all your other usernames want to waste your time writing profanities, go right ahead.

report to the mods any pms you get from casinogino/epirat etc.

It's all you can do.

They just keep signing on under new names.

Both forums.

He's been banned from three now, by the way.

it's totally unexplainable how anyone can be like this.

TWANG

I think we all realize now that I didn't really bring this on. It was just waiting to come out all the time.

The difference is in the gear ratio.... Import are 14:1 and Grovers you find on a Gibson are 18:1 ratio. In other words' date=' it takes more turns to complete one revolution of the peg with a Gibson Grover than an Epi Grover. 18:1 will hold better.

Hope that explains it..[/quote']

AFAIK Grover has been a tradename for different Asian parts manufacturers since the 80's. Different ratios yes, but they're _all_ imports.

The tuners on a Gibson may be _styled_ after Grovers, but I doubt they're made by Grover. Like their(Gibson's) bridge and tailpieces which are really made by Schaller.
