JefferySmith Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 The Beatles landed in the United States. I can remember it like it was 45 years ago.
duane v Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I remember when I was 5 years old (1969) I wanted to be Paul McCartney soooooo bad. I clearly remember strapping on my dads Martin and singing and play strumming to the song Michelle. I even had those pointed Beatles shoes... I was a fanatic at a very young age
Bill V Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I rememeber their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. I was eight years old and was in bed because I had to go to school the next day. My mom got me out of bed to see them perform. That was one of the pivotal points of my life.
RobinTheHood Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I thought the Beetle landed in the U.S. 60 years ago? I've owned three. None of which were silver.

I was eight years old and was in bed because I had to go to school the next day. My mom got me out of bed to see them perform. That was one of the pivotal points of my life. I do remember that night. I had never heard of them before, and I remember that the most profound thing my parents noticed was the size of Ringo's nose.
Gashole Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I wasn't born till '69 But I vividly remember hearing Band on the Run, Imagine, and In my Life (tunes played aot on the am station my parents listened to in the morning with coffee) and being haunted by them as a toddler-especially the 2 Lennon tunes...my folks didn't listen much to Rock and Roll...they liked the Jonnies Cash and Horton, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline..etc etc...so I got all of the Beatle and solo records out of the library(rather mom did because I kept asking about them-by now we're talking 4th and 5th grade) I remember that, sitting there mezmorized by the record player...then John was murdered...my elementary music teacher told us who he was and what happened to him, played Yellow Submarine (why-I don't know, what with Ringo singing lol) and She Loves You....I spent my allowance on Magical Mystery Tour on cassette that week...Strawberry Fields and I am the Walrus...I had to have those 2 songs! By junior high I had all of their American released stuff on cassette (I hadn't yet discovered the REAL Revolver and Rubbersoul etc etc; the British releases). It was actually a little bit hard to be a kid into the Beatles in the 80's...I caught a lot of peer crap cos I didn't get into Def Leppard and Van Halen and all of that. I always was reading some Beatle bio and wearing a Beatles tee shirt...I stuck out like a sore thumb...I had mutton chops and hair WAY out of style! But then something good happened- Through the Beatles I got to the rest of the invasion bands, but most importantly it got me to Clapton-who got me to Beck and Page-who got me to the old blues guys-who got me to Hendrix-and then I finally got a guitar when I discovered Jimi. I always just liked singing until that point...the Beatles also got me to Chet Atkins and Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry and Little Richard...I mean Christ, where do the Beatles NOT lead to? LOL Glad they decided to make the trip!
RobinTheHood Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 In the 50's there were the Silver Beatles:-$ I won't tell if you don't tell. :) For any Beatles/Futurama fans, the intro to the movie "Bender's Game" is an homage to Yellow Submarine. Incidently, Yellow Submarine was my first Beatles tape - along with a Waylon Jennings cassette. I remember when John Lennon was murdered. My mom wouldnt let me stay home from school that day. I was actually quite upset.
IntelligentAl Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I wish I remembered it. Unfortunately I was not even alive until many many years later. However, I do remember reading about it in the Beatles Anthology. Not quite the same... Either way, even though I was not around at the time, the Beatles have had an amazing effect on my life. I'm not happy unless I'm listening to one of their songs, and they have led me to discover so much more amazing music. What a great bunch of guys...
charlie brown Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 "How did you find America?".... (John) "turn left, at Greenland!" (Paul) "No, actually, we're just good friends!" (George) "You don't see many of these, nowadays, do you?!" (Ringo) No, She'll only reject me, in the end, and I'll be frustrated!" CB
JefferySmith Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 Reporter: When are you gonna get a haircut? George: I got one last week.
Whitmore Willy Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I wasn't born till '69 But I vividly remember hearing Band on the Run' date=' [/quote'] I remeber being in a store when Band on the Run came out. Next to the album stand was all the Beatle's albums. A little girl was looking at them and said to her mom: "Look mom, Paul was in a group before Wings".
charlie brown Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Reporter: "There's some doubt that you can sing?!" (John) "NO, we need money, first!" "Hey, Five "Scotch and Cokes," please...gotta keep these guys happy, and ward off George's 'sore throat!'" Ahhh, the good old days!!! CB

Students in my biology lab were talking about Paul McCartney, and one mentioned that the Beatles used to be his backup band.

duane v Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Paul and Yoko sure get a bad rap when it comes to the Beatles sour years... :D Let's face it, the Bealtes were done as a group, and it ran it's course... I'm surprised they didn't kill each other considering they put out 12 studio albums in a 4.5 year span... Were lucky if a rock band these days can put out two releases in that amount of time.

Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, Mamas and Papas.

zombywoof Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 The Beatles on the Sullivan Show changed my life forever. Watched them playand then looked over at my acoustic and all I could think was I had to get me one of those electric geetars.

charlie brown Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Well, thanks to me dear, departed "Mum," I found out about The Beatles, weeks before Ed Sullivan... But, seeing them "live" on that show, was all it took to "ruin my life,"...LOL! In the best possible way, of course! And, when I think of all the money I've spent, over the years, because of the influence of The Beatles (directly or not), I could have run a small country. ;>) Wouldn't have been nearly as happy, or had as much fun, probably...but, it is amazing, the things one did, spent, and continue to spend, because of "Four Lads, from Liverpool!" A fair amount of that, is evident, right here on this forum! CB

As to Yoko...John loved her, and that's all that mattered, to him. The fans can (and will) believe whatever they "want/need" to believe. But, even Klaus Voormann said that after John met Yoko, his life changed for the better, and continued to do so, for him. It was unfortunate, sad really, for Cynthia and Julian...no doubt about it...But, Yoko (apparently) had what John really needed/wanted. Besides, just because we like an artist's work, doesn't mean we own them, in any way! And Beatles fans, or any artist's fans, tend to forget that, all to often...and look what's happened! CB
MarxBros Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I personally knew the guy that was responsible for bringing the Beatles to Milwaukee for their one and only time, the ticket cost was $5.50 He also brought Dylan to town. That concert didn't work out so good.
MarxBros Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 A funny point I'd like to add, the guy who brought the Beatles to Milwaukee didn't even like "rock" music, but he had a hell of an open mind for an old Greek guy. Here's what Nick said... "We didn't know what the Beatles were all about, But we saw what love there was for the Beatles. . . . I'll always feel grateful they turned out to be peaceful people." He also supported the Milwaukee 14 when they were burning their draft records in the street in 1968. He also gave me my first job, errand boy. Thanks Nick......
