Emetry Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Here's a somewhat vague inquiry for you. At the local guitar shop, Rick, the tech there (former luither for Gibson) has had a BEAUTIFUL Wilshire hanging on his "to fix" rack. It has masking tape securing the fretboard so I knew it was something with the neck, but I finally asked what the issues was. I was informed that the fretboard had separated from the neck and he had to re-secure it. My question is this: Has anyone played a guitar with a re-attached fretboard or one that had separated, and if so, how did that affect the playability/tone/sustain/overall "guitar-ness" of the instrument? I could find out more specific information if need be. If it doesn't affect much, I'll likely pick it up. He always cuts me HUGE deals (i.e. offering me a Greg Bennett uni-body for $250) and I doubt he'd sell me a guitar that wouldn't at least PLAY.
EL-KABONG! Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 If the fretboard simply separated, then regluing shouldn't affect the sound/playability - Unless the reason it came up was a bowed/warped neck; then you may wanna pass on it.
Emetry Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 The information I have (and keep in mind this is at 4AM a couple days after finding out about the fretboard issues in the first place) was that it just separated and needs to be re-glued.
