guitarman53 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I've been offered a beautiful Epiphone Les Paul guitar. If I described it, could someone here be able to tell me if the price is a fair one? What kind of description would be most helpful? Maybe the serial number among other things?? Better yet, is it possible to post pictures? Thanks,Tom
AyushPresley Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Yes you can post pictures, that would me much more practical, .. when you give us the description it becomes something like a guess rather than being sure..post some pictures and we'll definitely be able to tell the model.. To Post pictures you have to upload a picture in photobuket then copy the url and paste it here then highlight the Url and press ..your image will show up here...if the picture is on a website then press the right mouse button and select copy image url and the rest as above..
sexygibson Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Hi ya, and welcome to the forum. Alot of guys here could give you a ballpark figure of a fair price for your guitar. Usually when I'm unsure of something i go to Ebay and do an advanced search for that item. You can see what that model has sold for in the past and get a good average.
TWANG Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I'll give you eight cents for a picture of it! Now, get busy clickin'. TWANG
guitarman53 Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I'll work on getting pictures posted. I do have a "serial number" which I located on the backside of the headstock... it is I03042353 (Eye zero three zero..). It has what my friend described as a "curly maple" finish. Deep blue in color. The truss rod cover says GIBSON. The tuner harware is chrome. The humbuckers are "open or exposed". The knobs are yellow/gold.

If those open coil pickups are stock than I would say its a Classic model.

guitarman53 Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Tom here: I posted a link to my pictures on the forum. Check it out. Let me know what I have. I have an opportunity to buy this guitar and a Fender Champion 30 DSP amp for $500. It is in mint condition. Fair Price??
lostindesert Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 There is a Fender FM 25 DSP (solid state) and a Fender Champion '600' two tone (tube amp). Never heard of a Fender Champion 30 DSP amp, but i could be wrong. The guitar was made in the Saein Factory in Korea, april 2003. Peter
sexygibson Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 With the Classic in mint condition, plus the amp, I would say it sounds like a good deal. The Classic has been discontinued so they don't come along often.
guitarman53 Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 After reading the story of the young man who purchased the counterfeit Gibson Les Paul, I'm a little concerned. The Epiphone Les Paul I'm being offered has three screws attaching the truss rod plate to the headstock also. Is that a tip-off to a fake for an Epiphone also or just a Gibson Les Paul?
AyushPresley Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 After reading the story of the young man who purchased the counterfeit Gibson Les Paul' date=' I'm a little concerned. Is that a tip-off to a fake for an Epiphone also or just a Gibson Les Paul?[/quote'] That is just for the Gibson..Epiphone has three TRC Screws.. your's is not a fake it's authentic.. To actually find out Epiphone Les Paul fake we look at the knobs alignment, the Bridge pick up (not being too close to the Bridge), the pick guard's screw placement, the Epiphone and the Les Paul or the Diamond inlay (in customs) logo and there are others too... but these are some of the main ways..
captmidnight Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forum, That amp is no longer made and they had a blow out sale on it back in '05 and sold it for 199 bucks. You can get a brand new Ebony Standard Les Paul for 499 bucks...close as you will come to finding your classic since they stopped making them. All because they don't make that model anymore doesn't mean it is worth more...nice looking guitar if you like black. Both being used...say the amp is worth between $125 and $150 used, and the guitar around 400 to 450 used...not a bad deal...not a great deal either...about what it is worth. BUT the best thing to do is go try it out if you can...see how it feels to you and how it plays and see how the amp sounds. Then the only question will be is it worth that amount to you? Sometimes you can find a real gem and other times a real turd..lol Capt
