Pedal Rig

Hi all.

I run a pedal rig through my Laney VC30 as follows:

Amp - Ibanez Tuner - Boss DD3 - Boss OS2 - Boss CH1 - Cry Baby Wah - Guitar

I feel that my dd3 doesnt cut through as well as it should. I have my drive at about 8 and volume at 2 (dependant on the size of venue, never really go above 3)

My DD3 levels are always at 12 o clock running at 800ms. Even if i push the volume level up i have no luck.

Is it the way i have my pedals arranged?

Many thanks.

Well I would go Guitar-Boss OS2-Cry Baby-CH1-DD3-Amp. Unless your tuner has a true bypass they can really suck the life out of your tone so you might want to put that on a loop or A/B switch.

Here's what it says.

The Ibanez LU20 digital chromatic pedal tuner has an extra-wide LED display offering superior visibility. Built into strong die-cast chassis, its 3-color indicated flat/sharp LED's makes onstage tuning fast and easy. With its true bypass circuit, LU20 outputs the input signal without any loss of its sound quality.

So im guessing thats not the reason. I'll try sticking the delay last to see if it helps.

Would the pedal rig run better if used through the fx loop?

OK well if it's true bypass thats not the problem. In general you want to use overdrive and distortion ahead of modulation effects. Best of luck with it.

When I run stuff through the FX loop is usualy stuff I leave on all night and stays with the amp...just lazy, don't want to mess with any more cables. Either way is the same to me as far as performance.

When I use a wah I plug into it first then tuner, just cause of space on my board. Otherwise it's tuner-OD-delay-amp. I'd plug that CH1 as Lay says after the OD.....BTW you are going through the mono side on it right?

Weird...I posted a link last night, and it's now gone.

Anyway, general rule of thumb for effects order is along this line (there is no hard set rule, of course):

filters (wah/auto wah)

compression (ick)

dirt (overdrives/distortions/boosts)

modulation (chorus/flange/phase)

delay

Tuners don't really belong in the signal chain at all. Those should be routed to a bypass pedal, so that they're not in the loop at all times. It might actually be true bypass, and if that's the case (the only way to know for sure is to remove the battery and see if it passes signal in bypass mode), it's not hurting anything to have it in the signal path.

Phaser = filter. However, there are no hard set rules on this. Sometimes, very worthy sounds can be found only through experimentation and "breaking the rules."
