Figstrum Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 This is a quick question regarding restringing through a stopbar system. I have seen people on you tube that like to restring the stopbar from the top, and bend the strings over the stopbar instead of feeding it through the bottom. They say that this creates better sound and sustain. Anyone with further theory to this method of stringing a stopbar?
Ricochet Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Wrong-sub-forum. He claims this is how it was depicted in an old Gibson catalog. My guess is he 's referring to an old '54 LP with a wraparound tailpiece or a later catalog with T-O-M-bridge-equipped Les Pauls on which they kept the same method of stringing over the top of the tailpiece, simply because they always did it like that...Can't recall hearing him make any claims on sound and sustain. Alltho I'm pretty sure it will(I never noticed). The only thing I can tell you for sure it changes the feel of the strings. They feel a bit looser, which makes sense. Decreasing string-angle has dramatic impact on the amount of Kilos of string-tension, and subsequently on sound and sustain.
Figstrum Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Yes, wrong sub-forum. I apologize for posting this on this forum folder. When I read Acoustics, I rushed and interpreted that as a sound related folder.
