gibsonbass76 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I'm looking at either completely or partially re-wiring my dot. I thought about just replacing my bridge pickup and was curious if I can pull the stock pickup a little out, cut the lead wires and connect the new lead wires to those wire. This would let me only have to soldier the couple wires together and not have to access the internal electronics. Your thoughts are welcome. I'm thinking about GFS to try out first.
wiggy Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 That would work fine and is the way a lot of people do it. You might also consider doing what I did and fitting as pair of quick connectors at the same time. This way you can swap pups quickly without having to desolder and solder wires in the future.
gibsonbass76 Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 How do you like the mean 90s in your dot? I'm thinking between the '59, the classicII, or the mean 90. I have only heard good things about GFS so far.
Ron G Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I, too, have a Dot Studio with Mean 90s. Being a rhythm player, not into a lot of gain, I love the chime I get with these pickups. They stack up well to other P90s.
jcwillow777 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I have the Vintage 59s in my Dot and Sheraton, I couldn't be happier. I use a lot of overdrive and compression, and these work very well for me.
matthewk Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 With the same pickups and body construction, is there any difference in sound between your Dot and Sheri? Only the neck really differs.

And yeah, the neck on my Sherry has a thinner profile, which I really like. But, I'm not planning on parting with my Dot, I love them both.
gibsonbass76 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 does anyone have a tutorial on how to totally rewire a semi hollowbody? I want to totally redo my dot but working through the f holes makes me want to cry!

I want to totally redo my dot but working through the f holes makes me want to cry! I don't know of a tutorial on a total rewire but this should at least help: No reason to cry. It just requires string and patience.
gibsonbass76 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 awesome video! Has anyone used one of these assemblies? Anyone know the best place to get one, and will it work with my dot?
Ron G Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Here's one. But the individual components would be substantially less money - your choice, depending on how much soldering you want to do. The video was an installation in an import semi-hollow, like a Dot - so it will work. https://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/item.asp?pid=577858&pg=92721&id=2115110
