slasher1319 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I play a lot of rock, bluesy rock and classic rock. I really like the access panel in the back because i may change the pickups in it and i figure that the lucille with an access panel might be better than reaching through f holes. Does the f holes really cause that much backfeed if i have play i through distortion. Which one do u say is better? keep in mind that i may change the pickups and easy access would be a help but if the sheraton is better ill get that? Oh and even though there arent soundholes in the lucille it still is a semihollow body isnt it?
Bender 4 Life Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 If you use heavy distortion, i'd go with the Lucille........ My reasoning is that, I use no actual distortion, and only drive my amp enough to give good OD "breakup" when played hard, and still sound clean when played softly. Even with this low gain operation, my Sheraton II will give sustained feedback as long as I remain standing in the "sweet spot" and face the amp. Granted, I turn the amp up and control my volume with the guitar v control, but I just bet that a lot of distortion, would = a lot of feedback. This is just MY personal experience, someone else may have a good way to control FB with distortion in a Sherri........

Yep-definitley can happen...my self, I try to get it to happen and then control it. The SD Pearly Gates in my Sherri allow for quite a bit of gain. I don't have much problem with feedback when I don't want it-but if you get careless about your level and position it can happen. I can gain it up pretty close to Terrible Ted levels-if not that same level of over all volume cos I don't have a slew of Marshalls.... I crave feedback though-I'm always trying to do the Jeff Beck/ Pete Townshend/Jimi Hendrix/Santana type stuff with it, so I want to be able to have it in my sound. That said, I wouldn't be doing that in public with the stock pickups. Don't think they handled the gain very well at all, but were fine for mellower tones. Lucille would indeed be less feedback friendly (or more-depending on your goal-I mean it will feedback less)

What made the difference to me is that I prefer slim necks over beefy necks, and the Lucille has a beefier neck. The ebony Sheraton is drop dead gorgeous.
