slasher1319 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hi. even though the sound holes are blocked up in the guitar, isnt it still a semi hollow? is it easy to install a bigsby, does it still sound like a semi hollow that still has f holes? More importantly, what is the exact weight of the guitar and how wide is the neck at the first and twelfth fret?? thanks
midiman56 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Wow ... questions! Where to begin ... The covered up "F" holes begain as a design specification from B.B.King himself. The main purpose was to cut way down on the amount of feedback an archtop will produce at high volume. Prior to that Mr King said that he would stuff his guitars with hotel towels to do that. Other than that, Lucille is very much a semi-hollow body guitar. In fact, to me it feels and plays very much like the current iteration of the Sheriton II. There are some additional tonal variations on the Lucille thanks to a 6 position vari-tone, although I must admit that I keep her in position one or two 99% of the time. The neck is a slim 1.68 at the nut and is extremely comfortable for me ... and I like a slim neck on a guitar. The Grover tuners work wonderfully and you even have the TP-6 bridge to really dial it in. The guitar is fully bound and all of the hardware including the special TRC is gold. The shipping weight is 12.5 lbs, so I'd put the guitar itself between 10 and 11. This is a great guitar. I've never felt the urge to mod it ion any way, so I'll defer to someone else on the Bigsby question. It sounds and feels amazing ... and is a true piece of musical history. Give on a whirl if you get the chance! MIDI
charlie brown Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have the Gibson version of "Lucille," and it's an awesome guitar! I love the "no 'f' hole," as it is much less prone to feedback, and still just as "warm" sounding as my other "semi's!" Never weighed it....it's not "lite!" But, not uncomfortably heavy, either...much like a Gibson ES-335, really. The neck is beefier, per BB's specifications, somewhat like a '50's LP, but again...unless you have small hands, it's not a problem, or uncomfortable. Like MIDIMan56 said, I (too) keep the vari-tone in position 1 or 2...but, I have used the other selections, in some situations. So, it's nice to have it. CB

CB[/quote']When you say 50's lp you mean the 50's style of neck rite? And the size is that of an es 335 or is it more scaled down like the 339? thanks for your help
JefferySmith Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 He means more like a Louisville Slugger.

But, as I said before, it's not uncomfortable...unless maybe you have small hands, etc. The body is full sized, like the 335 or Sheraton. It's actually pretty much the same as the Sheraton, size and weight wise, but with a beefier neck, and inlay markings, headstock, and of course, the Vari-tone. CB
