Figstrum Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I was looking into pups, and I found the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded set. It has good reviews, and might be something to look at for pups upgrade. In a product review in Musicians Friend, I read that there was an Aniversary set with the covered Humbuckers, but I can't seem to find this Aniversary set. Has anyone found this Aniversary set, or is using the set?
Figstrum Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Well...... I got lucky and found this: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Seymour-Duncan-Silver-Special-Hot-Rodded-Humbucker-Set-Limited-Edition?sku=481884. I guess my next question is, Can anyone locate discontinued gear?
Thermionik Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 SD's pair of pups (SH-2 Jazz/neck and SH-4/bridge) called the "Hot Rodded Humbucker Set", black-bobin uncovered with the SD logo. Played an Epi LP with them fitted and was impressed - seemed to cover a lot of the bases tone-wise. I think the Anniverary is the same set but with Chrome Covers but I have no idea if they are still available anywhere - but these guys might..... http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/index.php Or you could make a set up - SH-2 Jazz/neck and SH-4/bridge bought with covers.
Figstrum Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 I was pretty tempted on going with the burstbuckers, but I felt like a brand loyalist and disregarded the cheaper options of equal quality outhere. I will be doing some more reseach on this pup/tone quest... Thank you for your post.
TehLesPaulZorz Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Well, what kind of music do you primarily play?
generation zero Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I had a set, they had chrome covers with gold polepiece screws. Looked sexy, but I was less than impressed with the sound compared to the open coil models. I put them in my blue LP plus top... I took the gold screws out and swapped them with the chrome ones from the open coil set in my natural custom, which made the ones in the custom look far more sexy. But I was just never happy with the tone from the covered ones in the blue LP, so I sold it... I regret that now, becasue it was a sexy looking and playing guitar, I just didn't feel like buying more pickups to try at the time, and I had just bought the honeyburst plaintop... so I listed both of those for sale, planning to keep whichever one didn't go first. Hence why I still have the honeyburst. But anyway, I reccomend the standard hot rodded set if that's what you're looking for... the covered set is probably harder to find now, and won't sound as clear and bright if you do find them. Honestly, I 've had better luck with the vintage blues set, the pair of uncovered 59s.
Figstrum Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Well' date=' what kind of music do you primarily play?[/quote'] Mostly blues and rock. That is why when I read that the range of these pups was fittng to the type of music, I became interested in looking into them.

But, It looks like that the SD's with the two tone combination is discontinued and not within reach. I have contacted SD myself, but have not received an answer yet. I'm still deciding between the Burstbucker pro's and the SD Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB/SH-2n Hot Rodded Set Nickel. Maybe I should get a poll going on this. :-$/
Figstrum Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Anyone playing an Epi Lp with the Hotrodded set? If so, how wide is the range of sound? How does it do with rock licks, and blues riffs?
animalfarm Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I saw the Hotrodded Humbucker set and SERIOUSLY debated until I found the GFS website - you just can't beat the GFS prices, just have to find the RIGHT pups!
Figstrum Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 I have used GFS pups before. After using them for a while, I have always reverted to other gear. Not saying anything negative about GFS. I had the GFS Bigmouth, and ended up changing it to a Fender TexMex Humbucker on a bridge position as I was looking for a different sound.
