zoso_xanadu Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hi i'm josh i'm replacing the pickups in my les paul standard it's a honey burst with all gold hardware. I was thinking about putting a gold covered pickup in the neck position and a creme dimarzio super distortion in the bridge to give it that jimmy page uncovered covered look, but i'm not sure i might just go covered all the way what do you guys think? thanks so much!! -josh
generation zero Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Keep in mind that a covered pickup will sound darker and often a little "muddier" than the same model pickup in an uncovered version. While aesthetics are important, you don't want to sacrifice tone for looks. Make sure you look into the tone of the pickups you intend to use before purchasing, you don't want to get stuck with an expensive paperweight, LOL.
