JefferySmith Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 The moment I went to the Dean website, I felt an enormous 2-generation gap. This latest blast from Epiphone makes me wonder if I should hang out at the Gibson site....just to be with guys my age.

charlie brown Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Guys my own age??? Well, I'd have to hang out at the "Edsel" forum! CB
JefferySmith Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 I assume that the Fender Forum has guys like Ronnie and the Daytonas, Jan and Dean, and .......hmmmm......aren't most of the Beach Boys dead?
wiggy Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 What made me nearly wet myself was the Honda logo in the middle of it all. This may not be the same in the rest of the world but here in the UK Honda owners are generally of a more mature age and outlook and tend to be driven very slowly in the middle lane of motorways. Having now offended all the UK Honda owners here with a stereotypical view I shall now cower behind the barriers and await the flames !

LOL ...... here (at least where I live) a LOT of drivers of (older) Hondas are young "ricers," for lack of a better word. Bolt on a park bench wing, slap on a fart can, maybe try to fit an unpainted bodykit, and drive like a freakin' anal pore.....bless their hearts:-"
duane v Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 You wanna feel old........ try coaching an 11-12 year old girls softball team..... I could barely climb into my car this morning after catching batting practice yesterday.... never thought quad and hamstring muscles could get so sore.
BluezOldy Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 "just to be with guys my age." There's always the Fender Forum One thing I did like when I was a "Fender guy" on the Fender forum is that there wasn't that big gap between Gibson & Epi owners. Even if you had a Squier it still had Fender on the headstock. I couldn't access this forum for five days this week due to a cookie screwup in my Firefox so I spent the time on the Gibson forum - now I know how a Chihuahua would feel in a ring full of American Pit Bulls!
charlie brown Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Based on the direction Epiphone has been going, lately...I'd say I've outgrown "Rock!" (My God, did I just SAY that???!) But, I fear it's true, in some ways, anyway. I seem to always gravitate back to "Classic" Rock, or even before, anymore. Even "newer" bands, I might like, have a more "Classic" sound/feel to them. So, the Epiphones I have purchased, have all been "Semi" hollowbodies, or my MIJ '61 SG. With that exception, they're not exactly "Shredder" guitars. CB
sexygibson Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 We need you here Jeff. I don't care where you go you will experience the same thing. I don't care much for some of the new models that are more geared toward younger players but every maker has did it at one time or another. Remember in the mid 80s when Fender came out with " The Strat " ? It was a metal version of the tradional Strat that was geared toward the glam band guys. Heck, Gibson is doing it today with these " Robot" models, the " Holy V ", and those other God awful models that they have came out with the last couple years. I assure you that it will pass and that Gibson and Epi will always have offer their more tradional models.
gibsonbass76 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Don't be discouraged by there new approach, they are just trying to get to the kids saving up for that new schecter.

Having now offended all the UK Honda owners here with a stereotypical view I shall now cower behind the barriers and await the flames ! In the US, the old fart car was a Rambler. They petered out in the 1970's when the old farts driving them all died out. But even today in the states, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are invariably driven by people at high risk for poopie accidents.
wheatlands Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I can remember when MIJ was avoided at all costs, and the Beatles were not even heard of here. That should give you some idea of my age.
floydpink7 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Some people might like the one on the right ... Epiphone really needs to make a Grabber for the common man, for the ones who can't afford to spend $3,192 on a bass.... And I guess they got Honda as a sponsor cause well, ya know... they're "Hip" and "cool" . And having blood, skulls and griffins is a perfect way to get young people to buy guitars
brianh Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Don't go Jeff - this is exactly how the old Gibson guys felt when Ted McCarty cut a deal with Lester to market that newfangled gold top solid body. I can only imagine those guys talking about them dang kids and their obnoxius rocknroll. If they only knew then what we know now, they would have kept the factory open 24/7, and not screwed up LP's trapeze bridge on the first 3,000 in '51 and 52. Think of all the L5s, Byrdlands, 225s, 175s, 335s and Super 400s they could have produced with the profits and potential manufacturing growth in the US. In the meantime, I'm having a great time collecting those crappy 70s MIJ epis - new Gibsons have nothing on them in materials and build quality, tone or playbility, and I'm laughing all the way to the bank. When my son is my age, they'll be the new "rare" collectibles and worth a fortune. Same for Fender silverfaces - better than any 401K or stock portofolio, especially recently. Another stock tip: Take your LP to the Iridium on any Monday afternoon during sound check and ask Lester to sign it. What do you think that will be worth in 20 years? PS: I just bought another Genesis - my third in 2 months (pics soon). I still need a Custom model to round out the collection. I will buy these vastly underatted LP killers until there aren't any left. In the meantime, I hope the epiphone VPs sell a ton of bizarro untunable MIC string benders to the kids. I still need them to come through with my Valve Senior head.
Fadedepi Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Epiphone really needs to make a Grabber for the common man, for the ones who can't afford to spend $3,192 on a bass.... They do it's called a "Ripper" I had one in hands this past weekend. I asked for a price, but didn't get a firm one. The store was about to close. Left with the guy saying "around $500". Faded....

[/quote'] Hrmm:-k I have one of those 70's MIJ Epi's, and as much as I like it, it's not on par with my 2008 Gibson faded SG or my 2008 Gibby LP Junior.... Even my daughters 2008 Melody Maker resonates better than my ET-275

I dunno, those guys over at Gibson don't really seem like that to me, pretty kool bunch of guys/girl if you ask me. 'Course it's been a while too for me, and I couldn't help but notice now that it's mentioned, this is the first guitar forum I hit when I got back online...hmm...
duane v Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 WOW!! That Epi is so darn purty, it looks like it could play all by itself
Ron G Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Even without looking at the Epi site, it's pretty obvious that the young high-testosterone crowd makes up a good deal of the Epi population. Just a simple fact. I cannot relate to it.
