flyingfrets Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 In the process of changing the speed knobs on a new guitar, I pulled the shaft right out of the pot. Not sure if I'll send it out for the repair or do it myself, but in either case, is it really worth upgrading the pots, or are plain old off the shelf replacements just as good?
stabarah Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 the best pots aroung are 5 bucks a piece. Definitely worth new ones. Try new knob styles to, if you like(make it your own).
flyingfrets Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 I mean is it really worth upgrading the pots, not replacing them. There's no question whether I'll repair it or not. I figured, if I have to replace 1 of them, I might as well replace all 3, but is there a noticable difference between "designer" pots like the ones at StewMac and the generic replacements at GC.
generation zero Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Depends on what you're playing it through, really. If you've got a solid state practice sized modeling amp, don't waste the money, you won't hear a difference. But if you've got a decent tube amp, go ahead and spend the few extra bucks on the decent pots. Anything you can buy locally will be an "upgrade" from epi stock pots anyway, so really you can't go wrong.
