dbirchett Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 While perusing the Gretschpages forum I came upon this idea. The owner, K-Wad, had added what appears to be a B-60 and created a tension bar that he mounted to the tailpiece studs. A pretty ingenious solution. Of course then he went and took out all the volume and tone controls, adding a master volume control to the lower cutaway and the pickup selector switch to the upper. He also appears to have added a floating bar bridge although that may be cosmetic as far as the floating goes. Can't tell. Just someone's idea. Maybe it will spark someone else as well.
TWANG Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I might have to steal that master volume idea on the new dot.. And it's funny, I was just looking at the black bigsby and thinking about putting in on.. and wondering about something like this. I can't see the controls.. what'd he do with the switch hole? TWANG
dbirchett Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 Looks like he plugged all of the holes in that area and just has the master volume and switch a la Setzer Hot Rods.
TWANG Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I might go with a master volume. but I think I'll leave the switch be. I think his bar bracket is kinda crummy looking.. I'd have taken a couple of nice chrome pickguard brackets and modified them if I went with a new bar there. the idea is good though. Makes me wonder... that style bigs.. with the strings running through the actual tailpiece..I bet I could round it smooth inside even. and being height adjustable on the posts.. wouldn't take much, either. run 'em up to a roller bridge.. that'd look totally custom.
