Lord Summerisle Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Hello out there' date=' Just picked up a DOT and I will be swapping the pickups. They will run you about $100 for a complete set (so less than half the price of the Gibson '57s). I've never used them in a semi (I've used them in G-400s in the past) - but I would have thought they'd be just fine for your Dot. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Pickups:_Guitar,_electric/2/Golden_Age_Pickups.html
custer Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Will he have to purchase new mounting rings for the Stewmac pups?
jcwillow777 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I put a set of GFS Vintage 59s in my Dot, I think they are about $70 a set, plus shipping. Sure the Gibson 57 Classics are better, but I saved $130 and I am very satisfied. www.guitarfetish.com
Lord Summerisle Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Will he have to purchase new mounting rings for the Stewmac pups? I wouldn't have thought so. His original Dot arched mounting rings should be just fine.
custer Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I've heard alot of good things about the GFS '59 but again, with these will the original hardware/pup rings fit or do you need to purchase new ones?
custer Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Thats cool, I would just hate to see someone order aftermarkets and then have to turn around and order more hardware. Its just easier to order everything at the same time. Excellent advice on the pups guys!
Ron G Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 The mounting rings should work fine but the adjusting screws are not necessarily the same. The Epi screws and the GFS screws, for example, are different, threadwise. (at least mine were)
Bamablues Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I've had a Dot for several months and I am planning to install Gibson 57 classic p'ups .I have an Epi Les Paul with a 57 classic plus in the bridge and a 490 in the neck.It sounds good. J.L.Hooker
jcwillow777 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 What Ron said. I wanted to use the Epi pickup rings instead of the ones that came with the GFS pickups. So, I had to use the adjusting screws/springs from the GFS 59s and put them back together in the Epi ring. Both rings will fit.

valriver40 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 i just installed a set of gfs 59 in a joe pass guitar and they sound much better than the stock ones.
jcwillow777 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 'cept I used the Epi springs' date=' which were better than the skinny ones that came with the GFS pickups.[/quote'] Come to think of it, I did that too for the same reason.
newlife15 Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 I don't know why it never occured to me that i may need some new rings. i'll give stewmac a call. I just assumd that they would have been made to specs that gibson used.
