I like it. Its very warm and seductive looking. Can I use it to seduce my audience? OK I know thats a little much. I do like it though, it looks very nice.

Nice, Dot studio? (this makes 3 who like it. At first glance I wasn't sure about the pg but after 2 seconds I was sold)

What are the pups, I see it's HB and P-90 but which exactly and have you played it yet, if so hows it sound?

fadedepi put a dream 180 hb and a mean 90 p90 in it.

I've been playing the bridge and I really think it was a very good choice for this guitar.

It's warmer than my sheri which is acoustically brighter by quite a bit..

And I can't tell if it's the pup, or the wood talking but this has a really nice sound.

It's more like a humbuck but with loads of p90 characteristics.

That is, it's deeper and warmer, but not to any disadvantage at all. Just p90 but not like my KentArmstrongs.

I'm sure part of it is the pups.. but I also think that it's the guitars, this is just way more dot like.

plays peachy.. tweaked the rod and lowered the bridge and she's fast as can be.

I think I'll put a kA p90 in the neck..

This humbuck is wired for single coil.. and it might be ok for that in the bridge but to me it's a bit dull and a tick weak.

So I think I'll put my epi lp studios neck p90 in the neck of this one, and this dream 180 in the neck of the lp as a straight humbuck.

I was gonna mod this up and sell it but it's really getting hard to think about that.

I went over the body with lemon oil after I did the board.

And man.. it really brought out the finish nice! So I'm definately going to do something similar but permanent.

the red is deep on this to start with. but with a glow it's just tremendous.

I think I'd rather sell the lp.

Twang, Is the bridge "P90" humbucking?

I like the look of the neck PU. Chrome cover, 12 polepieces. Just as Seth Lover intended.

Phototip *32: If you want to catch chrome/metal in a pic make sure it reflects something white, like a (white)wall or a piece of paper.

Patrick, perhaps you'd care to address, in some manner, the "is the Sheraton worth

xxx dollars more than the Dot" question. You now possess two P90-loaded Epi

semihollow guitars. Aside from the bling (pretend you're blind), how do they compare?

BTW: I'm glad you finally got the chance to hear the GFS Mean 90 for yourself - now

you know what we've been talking about, especially considering the bargain price.

How do you think it compares to the Kent Armstrong version?

I like everything but the tortiseshell pickup selector switch ring... Then again, I don't like those rings in general, on anything. If you are going to keep one on it, better shell than anything else... It is original, at least.

Hard to make out what is black and what is chrome though... I'm seeing black pickup rings and tailpiece screws, and chrome pickups, tailpiece, and bridge. Is something else black? I like the idea of mixing the two colors, they work well together.

Nice guitar, I'd play it!

I'll try to get a better pic.. chrome bridge and tail, but black posts and bushings.

I may get chrome dome knobs with ebony caps.. and I'll get a black tip for the switch.

fadedepi had the right idea.. just a little more chrome will do it, I think.

This has changed my mind a bit on the sheri versus dot question.

first off, there's no doubt the dot, acoustically, is darker. But it's also just as loud.

Playing wise, the dot has a slightly larger, rounder, neck, but it feels very good.. I think the satin finish helps there, as the sheri is thin, but

glossed.

the dot is lighter, and I like that. Not by a lot, but enough to tell.

If I compare them, though, it's kind of unfair or impossible. I know the sheri stock, but the dot came to me with the gfs.

Still, 300.00!! That is one ton of guitar for 300.00.

The dot has a disadvantage in the finish. It will get marked up quick and easy.

But boy, so what? I'd gig with this thing anytime and brag about the scars later.

They both need upgrades, so that puts the dot a tick ahead, too. After all, at the Sheris price, it really shouldn't need much.

But basically, they need the same parts.

This is, for me, the only area where epi has fallen back with the sheri.

At least upgrade the pots and caps..the sheri should need nothing there.

So, much as I hate to say it, the dot gets the vote in too many ways. For a beginner, it's absolutely a great deal.

For an intermediate weekend picker, it's just cool all the way.

For a pro as a backup, there's no shame at all, with a couple of tweaks.

The sheris got a lot more sparkle. part of that is the guitar, you can hear it, and part of that is the KA p90s.

The dots p90s are warmer.

But, I have to say, if you want that warmth.. the GFS comes in at a price point that makes them a near steal.

The low end and the mids are not muddied up.. the balance is very good.. as good as the KA's.

The KAs do a better job with efx.. but cheap ones don't work as well with them as they do the GFS.

For instance modulation.. or even reverb and delays, you have to back off a bit on the sheri IF you're running it hot and bright.

That's a niggle though. single coils in general are like that to my ear.

There is a nice balance between p90 sound and humbuck sound with the gfs.. the KAs are more casino bright.

The GFS might very well be the blues players preference.

I gotta call it a draw!

I'll put a KA p90 in the neck of the dot. That will tell me a lot.

And I'll get a better idea of the dream 180 when it's in the neck of the lp,with a ka humbuck in the bridge of that one.

All that being said.. I still would sell the dot off before the sheri.

The bright, and the bling, win with me.

That and 17 years and it still has all it's original qualitys makes a difference.

It looks and plays almost like new.

the dot.. in 17 years.. she's gonna be showing her age and experience.

I also think the sheri, five piece neck, would be the better player, too.

But hats off to epi.. this guitar sounds excellent now, plays great, and even with all black hardware, looks pretty cool, too.

For 300.00, I just think this is the top semi hollow out there, and for 400.00 or over, it looks like epi is it's own main competition.

Rosenberg! a little thicker top coat. Satin will do. just a bit of a glow, and a little more protection.

And clean up those epi electronics, it deserves it.

Thanks for the comparison, Patrick. What can be learned here is that, even if you're on a tight

budget, you can have a very nice and nice-playing guitar. Sure, if money wasn't an issue, I

would have (theoretically) bought a Sheraton instead of a Dot Studio. But I know for sure

that the Dot is not a POS, either. Mainly, not as pretty.

Looks great, TWANG !!!!! My first impression was "WHOAH !!!! I dunno, man......." ...... but after looking a few times, it really grew on me. The red tortoise looks really cool (and nice touch doing the trc too !!! ) Nice !!!!!

Ron I agree.. it's not junk at all, it's quite a good souning and playing guitar.

RSDx.. the darn thing looks better in person, no lie!

Sure, it's RED alright.. but it looks like wood, too, and changes a bit as you move around with it.

Got a tele and an amp to finish up then I'll get started on it again.

That is definitely a likealot.

To me, the difference between tasteful and shameless decoration is the same between guitars and women. I like a little blush to accent the natural beauty, but I don't care for clown spots on her cheeks.

I'm home on my computer now, not my phone, LOL... I can totally see the black bridge posts too now. I like it, a lot. Definitely think the chrome dome knobs with black inserts would be perfect, and the black switch tip is a no brainer... I still think I would lose the switch ring washer though... that piece alone is overkill on the tortise. The guard is great, and the TRC is a nice touch... the switch ring pushes it over the edge, IMO. But it's yours, if you like it, keep it... surely not my place to judge, LOL!
