GuitarJunkie
I know Newton's third law of guitar forums reads "A new guitar shall not exist until one posts photos of said axe", but I couldn't wait. About three hours ago, I brought home my new ES-339 in Vintage Sunburst. I probably won't even get to play it until the weekend though. The reason I say it's a bad thing is because this is my fourth Gibson (1 used, 3 new) in a month. I'm probably going to have to get rid of a few that I haven't been (or now won't be) using. It's so hard to decide which ones will go.

GuitarJunkie
Had to wait for my wife to go to bed so I could snap some "glamour shots" on the leather couch (ie. guitar porn). Actually, I was reassembling my 2001 LP Classic Plus I just picked up. I went over it with the Virtuoso cleaner and polish. That stuff is amazing. Anyhow, here's a teaser; The weird thing is with the naked eye, you can't see ANY red in the sunburst. The flash seems to bring it out. Oh, and I haven't peeled the white paper off the pickguard yet. Gibson CS
call me crazy, but i dont see why the 339 is soo popular that one looks beatuful, great burst but back to my poiint, why not just get a 335, or a les paul, idk, but i dont think they are that cool but 4 guitars in a month, who needs a wife when you got a gibson lol j/k
Hydra26
I guess i've got my own "Guitar of the Week" program goin' on. Hahahahahaha. Couldn't have said it better myself. Jessenoah, the 339 was to me a very (relatively) affordable entry into the world of semi-hollow body guitars with great pickups and a full gloss (not faded or satin crap) finish. I suspect, that the price has attracted a lot of folks, it's a good grand ($1000 USD) cheaper than a 335. That's not chump change. Also I think a lot of folks liked the reduced size (wasn't high on my personal list of deciding factors).

Gibson CS
o right on it just seems like for what 1800 right? i rather would buy like an es-137 like ted nugent, or save for a 335 im not trippin, i REALLY like that desertburst finish on it, but i dont see the greatness of iit but id take it if it was free =D
Hydra26
I like it. I thought about an es-137 at one point in the past but I'd rather have what I got with it's 57 Classics. At some point, I'll probably get a 335 or a 355 just to have a full size. I like that I can get a full featured semi hollow for less than a LP Std. Aside from the top not being figured (which not everyone likes) there really don't seem to be any noticeable shortcuts on this guitar.
Gibson CS
really, i dig the tone i really do but to me a guitar dont look good unless you are banging your knees on it and only a les paul looks good that low so im kinda stuck lol but i do like 335s i really like 137s anyway, A 1970s 335 through a 53 I think fender tweed coverd amp-that is the combo i know a guy, man how lucky, the amp is beat to hell but sounds and works great, the 335 has like a 5 inch thick neck, but it is still awesome to play, and makes the best rockabilly, clean, and country sound ive ever herd
GuitarJunkie
why not just get a 335 Hydra hit the nail on the head. I'd love a 335' date=' but in Canada they're just under $3000 and even used ones go for over $2000 [u']if[/u] you can find one. I got my 339 for $1769 plus tax, which I think is a great value for a Custom Shop Gibson. or a les paul I have two Les Pauls already, and this guitar gives me tones my LPs can't. BTW, of all the guitars I've come home with in the last few weeks, my wife really liked the 339 and the LP Classic Plus (the one in my avatar). She's obviously got pretty good taste (at least in guitars).

GuitarJunkie
You're referring to the satin finish 335, right? The shop where I get my Gibsons has a cherry one for $1849. If I have a choice between a gloss finish, bound neck, Custom Shop Gibson for $1769 of a satin finish, non-bound neck, production line instrument for $1849, I guess you know which one I'll choose. Notes_Norton
Actually, the smaller size of the 339 attracts me. I play an ES-330 at home and an Epi Casino on stage (the ES is worth too much to bang around) and I find them a little large. The only thing that I can't personally justify is the price of the 339. I'm sure it's worth every penny, but I also need a new saxophone, as mine is getting worn out and I just bought a couple of new synth modules. That's the problem with being a multi-instrumentalist, the sax, wind synthesizer, flute, and everything else just invades my guitar budget (I guess multi-instrumentalist give one multi-GAS). BTW, I really like the "slim taper" neck on the ES-330. How does the neck on the 339 compare with the 330/335? I'm thinking about a 339 for a possible future purpose (or sooner if I hit the lottery). I've also thought a bit about the (discontinued) Blues Hawk. Notes
