lpfan Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Hey I know its not an epi but has anyone played the applause roundbacks that are like the ovation celebrities? I have one and it usedto play really well but now I have alot of fret buzz. Just wondering what your experience was with these guitars like.
sexygibson Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I had one years ago but have no idea what they are like now. If I remember right it seems that the fretboard was actually aluminum. I also owned a high end Ovation at one time that sounded o.k. but just don't think you can get that true acoustic sound with that plastic back.
TommyK Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Since the whole thing is held together with space age epoxy glue that renders everything other than the soundboard immovab le, and the neck is likely aluminum. Fretbuzz is likely being caused by worn frets. Since, I believe frets are not removable, but cast as one piece into the neck... I have one suggestion. Cut a hole in the lower bout of the soundboard, say 9.725" in diameter. Round or oval works. Then place an opened container of French Onion dip, fill the body cavity, through the new 9.725" hole, with 2 bags of Lays potato chips. Voila! A party bowl!. I think the Beverly Hillbillies called it a 'taterchip passer. Seriously, post a query over on th Gibson board. THere's a guy Ksdaddy, who just purchased a Applause like object d'art. Part time art collector, part time luthier, part time daddy to k and s. Might be able to help you You could visit the Ovationfanclub.com website and post a query, but my Applause queries go pretty much un answered. The Applause seems to be the redhaired step-child over there. If you do go, take your Volvo and be sure to wear an Izod poloshirt and your Birkenstocks. btw, I have an Applause AE-33 classic, in my 'repair shop'/ storage room. Some day I'll get her playable again. The neck appears to be wood. It appears, also, to have spent time in Australia. The neck's either wood, or a darn good impersonation of one.
lpfan Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Thanks, I'll check it out. And the neck is made out of wood, its not aluminumonium or umm, whatever. LOL
