matiac Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Checked it out in that "Lifestyle" thing up top there, and it's a very attractive guitar in an unusual sort of way...kinda like a "Boneyard" SG...got that tigerstripe thing Perry's guitar has, 24 frets, although it looks like the last 4 or 5 frets ight be a challenge for some players, B-Bucker pickups, nice.
matiac Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 I don't, it's one of those thingys that pops up in the "Lifestyle" thing at the top of the page.
captmidnight Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/spotlight-on-the-aaa-309/ There you go...don't have to wait for it to finally pop up to click on Capt
IntelligentAl Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Finally, out of all of the guitars that Gibson have come out with recently, it looks like this one might actually be pretty cool!
Parabar Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Foo! There's no excuse for a Gibson at that price point not to have neck binding or individual volume and tone controls. I blow it a large and noisy Bronx Cheer! (and where's the "Smiley" for that anyway?)
matiac Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 I dunno, I like it, think it looks neat. If I had the coin, I'd get one.
midiman56 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The Diablo SG's are pretty radically carved as well. I don't really care for this look ... but man, was this one sweet player! Jim
pohatu771 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 It looks like the same body as the Diablo. I never played any, but they looked great. Better than a "classic" SG, in my opinion.
Ricochet Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Funny, I really like the look, the Diablo too, but I would never play them...
charlie brown Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 This one is a sweety... Yeah, just wish the bevels were deeper in the cutaways! The "Diablo" looks better, in that regard. But, it's nice, no doubt! CB
pohatu771 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Maybe the Diablo has proven incredibly unpopular, and I can get one cheap... I'm a sucker for a matching headstock.
iansmitchell Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I think these look amazing. I HIGHLY prefer individual vol/tone controls, however, and I think it could use a pickguard(maybe a SG-ized version of the LP style?). As mentioned before, neck binding. But overall, VERY COOL. I want something like this to be the dark fire SG. Same deep red and style as the DF, but this general concept.
larkin38 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I don`t really like it. It looks pregnant and cheap looking. Like the early 1970`s SG`s.
maniak Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Looks nice,,i like the Diablo better but I'll bet you that playing and soundwise my Epi Prohecy GX will give it a good run for the money at 1/4 of the price.
wedgeSG Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I've liked the Diablo ever since the first pic I saw, fell in love with the thing when I saw one first hand. Loved the red finish, didn't dig the gold hardware but it still works. I like this one too: in fact I find it hard to decide which I like better. I do not understand only two controls on this model however... The MSRP appears to be about $4442. on this new L'il sucker so I won't be purchasing one anytime soon. For some reason Diablo's have shown up a time or two at a price in line with what one would hope to pay for a nearly-new but slightly used Gibson, this release may cause an upswing in their pricing. How long do you think we'll have to wait for a carved top Epi SG? Could it even happen? Wedgie
matiac Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 Who knows? Epiphone came out with the Prophecy series, and as stated, would Give a Gibster a run for the roses, but looking at this thing closer, it's setup is remarkably similar to an Epi SG Special, only difference is a setneck, and 2 extra frets...and the radically carved top. I like it, but it is a tad pricey (4500 bucks???) Please! A Les Paul CUSTOM is almost 2 grand cheaper, and 300 times the guitar that SG will ever be...still though...
Ricochet Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Yeah' date=' just wish the bevels were deeper in the cutaways! The "Diablo" looks better, in that regard. But, it's nice, no doubt! CB[/quote'] I think they're exactly the same CB. It's just the angle and lighting making the Diablo's curves more pronounced. As ever, could be wrong tho...:-)
charlie brown Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I think they're exactly the same CB. It's just the angle and lighting making the Diablo's curves more pronounced. As ever' date=' could be wrong tho...:-)[/quote'] Maybe...but I still wish ALL SG's had the early '60's beveling, all around. It's just a my wish, I guess. To me, it just looks better, feels better, and is the epitome of SG "Style." CB
custer Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I like it. Actually I've always been a fan of the SG styling. Maybe sonmeday.......
generation zero Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Now this is an SG I would play. Agree it needs 2 more knobs, but I imagine it would be tricky to fit them in on that top... Anyway, when I first saw the diablo I said it was great, except for the solid color. I love this finish, I would love to see one firsthand.
Ricochet Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Is this a regular thickness SG with a more pronounced carve, or does it also have a thicker body?
