Sinb Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 This might be a stupid question because i dont know **** about hollowbodies but whats the Difference between the Epi DOt and the Epi Casino? I really have been looking into them and Im really digging that warm even punchy resonant tone u can get from these puppies. Thanks in adv, Sinful Bane
TWANG Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 There are two things you'll notice the most. One the casinos neck is set deeper into the body.. so it's harder to get to the higher frets. A deeper neck set makes a change in tone though..so.. that's to weigh. Second the casino will have p90s and the dot will have humbucks. I put p90s in my sheri and my dot. *S* The third thing is the tail.. casino having a trapeze, the dot a stop tail. There are other small differences but these are the main things to me, for sure. timandbob Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Casino is a full hollow body, the Dot is a semi hollow body (with a center block). This makes the Casino potentially subject to feedback (or a bit more likely to have it) at higher volumes.
ButchCassidy Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 How do they differ price wise and which would u recommend? Typically, at least where I live, the Casino goes for about $100-150 more. Which would I recommend? Both. Go to a music store and try them out. Pick the one that you like best. I have a dot and sheraton and like them both. With my Dot, I changed the pickups out to some humbucker sized singlecoils which sound similar to the casino's p90's in my opinion. Casinos are louder acoustically, too, from what I've heard. I suppose because they're fully hollow. Check out epiphone wildkat's too! rondomusic.com and guitarfetish.com have some cool archtops too.
rowdy27 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Casino is bluesy-sweet, Sheraton is raunchier. Forget the Dot. Dean Palomino is cool too. Choose the style of music you can play decide..
Guest icantbuyafender Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 this is like choosing between an sg or a les paul when lookin into solid bodies. or strat vs tele... gibby vs fender... age old battles that come down to the player's preferences
Notes_Norton Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I recommend the Casino -- but that is for my style of playing. You might disagree. 1) Casino has P90, Dot has humbuckers. I like the P90 sound better. With my FX pedal, I can make the P90s sound similar to a humbucker, but there is nothing you can do to make a humbucker sound like a P90 2) Casino is full hollow, Dot is semi-hollow....therefore... 2a) Casino is much lighter than Dot (about 6 pounds) 2b) Casino sounds much better and louder unplugged (great for practice without an amp) 2c) Casino will have a tendency to feed back at high volume levels, but IMHO if you are playing that loud, you are permanently damaging your ears anyway. Although they look similar, they are two very different guitars. You need to evaluate the sound of the different pickups (without FX), the volume you play at, and the kind of music you want to play. If you can get to a music store and try both out in the same amp, perhaps with just a touch of reverb (nothing more) and listen to the difference in tone, it might help. Insights and incites by Notes
TWANG Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I have to recommend consideration of the dot studio. If the one I just got is typical at all for sound and playability, these things are a near steal at 300.00. Cosmetically not as pretty.. but can be made to look darn nice. All of these guitars will feedback easier than a solid body.. but it's not a real problem unless you're playing in your locker. step away from the amp! But as you can see by reading these posts.. they are very different in many ways.. and familiarity will be your best bet. TWANG
Lord Summerisle Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 This might be a stupid question because i dont know **** about hollowbodies but whats the Difference between the Epi DOt and the Epi Casino? and... You'll have to go to a store and experience both first-hand, to work out which one you prefer(!)

Everyone has given you the hard data your feel will point you in the right direction. I have both and would venture a guess that you'll have both in time. mgm
wheatlands Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I had the Dot for about 3 weeks. Went and swapped it for the Casino. The Casino is lighter, and has a little more bling. I think the neck on the Casino is a little different then the Dot. It felt that way to me. Maybe its just me. Which one would I suggest? Hard to say.
