lpfan Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I found a used Fender Squire Strat for $50.00. Should I buy it or not? I know its cheap but the input jack is broken so I know that I would have to replace it but I don't know if the rest of the guitar works. Its also an Affinity series. I don't know anything about the different series Fender makes. What do you guys think?

A Switchcraft 1/4" mono jack is less than $5, so if you have a soldering iron and need a usable second, third or 20th guitar, then $50 is a very reasonable deal. They tend to go for $100 or more on Craigslisp. Let me know I'll send you a jack.
SlagJones Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 As long as there aren't any other major issues with it I would take it for $50.
generation zero Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Yeah, for 50 bucks you pretty much can't go wrong on that one.
Guest icantbuyafender Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Yeah' date=' for 50 bucks you pretty much can't go wrong on that one.[/quote'] hella. brianh will throw u a jack and order up a super strat kit for 32 bucks and take ur solderin' iron on an adventure. everyone should have a super strat if possible and for <$100 its a no brainer. hell... order that stuff and ship it all to me and I'll wire it up for free and pay to ship it back! I have some spare orange drops for a strat...
Swoop Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 At that price, I'd definitely go for it, so long as there are no other issues with it. Fixing the jack will be easy. The Affinity Series is a great mid range Squier Strat. Hell at that price I'd buy it just to poach the neck off it. Some day I'd like to get a Seafoam or Surf Green Strat body, and poach the neck off a cheap Squier, and build myself a DIYer. I reckon that'd be great fun.
sexygibson Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 For $50 I don't see why not. I would think that if you decided later that you didn't like the guitar you should be able to get your money back; maybe even make a few bucks.
lpfan Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 I guess I'll go get the guitar on Thursday if its still there. I was gonna trade some stuff that I had lying around the house for it so I won't be spending any cash. That way the wife will be happy. Like my Dad says: Happy wife, happy life! LOL!
lpfan Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 I GOT IT! HNUGD! I'll post some pics of it after I clean it up tonight. It looks like the nut just slipped off the input jack so I can fix that easily but one of the tuning heads is missing so I might have to carefully use a set of vice grips to tune the high E.
lpfan Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 Here is my newest addition to the family. Not bad for 50 bucks, needs a little work. I guess I'll have to go visit Guitar Fetish. HMMMMM......
Swoop Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Hey looks like a pretty good deal for $50! What does it need fixed? The headstock looks a lot bigger than that of my California Series Strat. Now see if you can do what I did, and find a matching Tele for around the same price!
floydpink7 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Awesome Squire, enjoy playing it! hmn... Not bad for 50 bucks eh?
lpfan Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 The only thing it needs is a nut on the input jack and the high e string tuning head is missing the knob on the headstock. Anybody got one of those machine head knobs lying around? Anyway since its a Squire I think that I am going to paint the body white, mask it off EVH style, and then paint it pink. I am going to give it to my daughter for her first guitar. I thought that may be a really cool twist on a girls first guitar.
