oobujoobu Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Hi, First post here, looks like a great forum that I might get some real use from in future! My question is, I am looking for a 2nd guitar, I am gigging regularly and feel I really should have a 2nd guitar available on stage, both for variety as well as a back up in case of disaster. I currently use an Epiphone G-400 through a Marshall VS265, and I love the overdrive sounds I get from it, and clean sounds are good when chorus/phaser etc. is added, but I've never been particularly happy with the clean sound where no effects are added. I would love to have something that sounds great with clean tones, and have been drawn towards one of the following - Dot/Casino/Sheraton , and also just because they look so damn cool! However, I've been told that I might struggle to keep feedback under control with one of these combinations, especially as we often play small stages where I might sometimes be stood within 3 or 4 feet of the amp. Does anyone have a view on whether these guitars might give me these kind of problems? Thanks in advance
Parabar Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 The Casino is the most feedback-prone of the three, being both fully hollow and having P-90 pickups. Since the Dot and Sheraton are both semi-hollows with humbuckers, they behave much more like a solid body. Eric Clapton did some of his most memorable work with Cream playing a Gibson ES-335 (very much like the Epi Dot) through Marshall stacks, with no apparent feedback problems. Check out Cream's "Farewell" DVD to see for yourself!
oobujoobu Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I've managed to get hold of a Dot to borrow for band practice tomorrow so I will see how it perofmrs. I hope it goes well as I would really like to get one ordered over the weekend!
