Too much appreciation for Gibson

Recommended Posts

Why does everyone here say "My Epiphones knowhere near as good as my Gibson" it's starting to wear a little thin. Gibson make some good guitars yes but this is an EPIPHONE FORUM! If you love Gibsons so much go to that forum. By the way i've played alot of Gibsons and my Epiphone is brilliant compared to them.

Just stop and think please!

Here we go again..like the Stone's song.."nineteenth nervous breakown",

this has to be at least the 20th attempt of the old Gibson bashing thread with

a different title.

Gibson appreciates all you out there that buy their Epiphone products because

for every genuine hand made Gibson out there, there are at least 100 or more

mass produced Epiphones sold out there. So either way, you are still contributing

to the well being of the "World's Greatest Guitar Factory"..the one that invented

the Les Paul and other desirable models.

Seriously...I love my Epiphones and I love my Gibsons. Will my Epiphones ever be a Gibson? Nopes, but with some good afterparts and a bit of TLC, pretty close(you can keep the cigar).

According to the Gibson website, Gibson Guitar is poised for layoffs in view of dropping demand

for their guitars during the current economic recession. More American workers will (probably)

lose their jobs. Hopefully they will continue making their fine products and become stronger

as a result. but it's always sad to see good businesses affected by financial institutions that

should have checks and balances in place.

That's the logical answer to the question and the bottom line for most of us Ric...but some folks just can't accept that reality as we see time after time after time after time after time.....etc...etc... Let me have a whack at that horse!](*,)

Just stop and think please!

Think about what?

Gibsons ARE better than Epiphones, but I have both and I will post wherever I like.

Im not saying Gibson are a bad company but this being an Epiphone forum should mean we talk about Epiphones not Gibsons. Both have longevity in their history. But there's no need to interlink the two. Gibson may own Epiphone but it's still a seperate Guitar Manufacturer. Give the guys at Epiphone some credence to their history at the very least.

Man, you should have gone for a beer with Mr Nelson. You two would have got on like a house on fire. I can just imagine his response when you argued that Epi is a separate company from Gibson with its own distinct lineage (ancient and modern)...

Seriously Wrighty, put this to bed now. Epis are Epis and Gibsons are Gibsons. The fact that Epi is owned by Gibson means that its more OK to talk about Gibsons here than it would be, say, Rickenbackers. That said, I think Epiphones still dominate most of the guitar-specific conversations at this forum, which is how it should be.

Many moons ago I was exclusively a Gibby Les Paul guy. Had you

suggested I purchase EPI, I would have laughed, considered EPI

a "cheap second-rate brand" because it didn't say "Gibby" on the

headstock. Military service forced me to sell the "Gibbys", and last

year I purchased an EPI based on PRICE and appearance. Know

what? EPI DOES make some damn fine guitars, and I've ALSO bought

a second EPI (LP Classic) based on my experience with the first one.

Not a 2nd rate brand at all, EPI is a stand-alone guitar company!!!!

I know the "rep" that goes with the "Gibby" name. If it will make

someone happier, give ME the extra $1000.00+ you would have

spent, I'll personally come to your house, put a piece of DUCT TAPE

on your EPI headstock, and write "GIBSON" on it. There... NOW you

have a "gibby"!!! If you want the look of the guitars produced by

"the parent company", UPGRADE your tuners! Etc, etc, etc....

it all depends on which history of Epiphone you are referring to. Epiphone NYC did

make some fine guitars prior to 1957, but the owner lost interest in continuing

to make guitars and sold the entire business lock, stock and barrel to Gibson.

That Epiphone only exists in history and through some of the vintage guitars that

are still around.

Epiphones prior to being made in Asia, are for all intensive purposes, cheaper clones of

Gibsons...and at a slightly cheaper price than in the 60s. Many of the

guitar models offered by Epiphone today are basically renamed copies of Gibson

guitars. Yes, they can be fixed up as much as you like..but other than some models

(like the John Lennon Casino/Paul McCartney Texan..and the very rare Excellente),

most of the Epiphones made these days are still basically worth only what you paid

for them on resale, minus the improvements..so just enjoy them.

Actually I'm wrong, the only thing better than a Uku is a Black Gibson Les Paul. The Black ones are so much better than the Uku's. But the Uke's are way better than Epiphones!

Svet...who wants to play an instrument that sounds like "My Dog Has Fleas" when tuning it/

4 strings sound good on a tenor banjo..5 even better, 6 strings are best! LOL.

BTW...Gibson did make ukes and one electric uke for Arthur Godfrey. The big problem was

making the strings for it. Godfrey didn't want to play steel strings, so Gibson had to invent

nylon strings with some kind of stretching steel core for him. This was in the days before

the piezo pickup came into being too...now that's Gibson innovation!

If it aint a Uke it aint worth playing![/quote'] A friend of mine from church, she has a ukelele and an Epi mandolin she brings to jam with depending on the song(s) .... sounds cool for what it is....it's mostly acoustics at church, although my Epi LP has made a couple of appearances @low volume. Ukes are cool .... all instruments are cool. Even cooler if the owner can actually play, regardless of the name on, or shape of, the headstock.

I've been looking for a black UKulele but alas, no such luck! I have a feeling a Black Uku will put even a Black Les Paul Custom by Gibson to Shame!
