Too much appreciation for Gibson

What's so funny about it?

Oh' date=' I know...it's because I like the stock Epi pick-ups in my G-400 which, as I recall, means that I need to learn to play guitar (according to your arguments in another thread) - so I guess I'm still having *** and elbow location issues here.

[/quote']

I just wanted to say that I also like the stock pups in my G400.

I also think the Classic Vibe Teles are very nice. I've been thinking about getting one.

So don't let rowdy27 bother you. He's entitled to his opinion. But his opinion is not shared by everyone. Not even by the majority IMO.

I couldn't sell my Dot Studio quick enough! It wasn't worthy of an upgraded pair of pickups.

Of course I could have bought a pair of 'em & used them for "Snowshoes" up here in Canada. Lol..

Ya get what ya PAY for gang. Spend your money wisely..

I actually prefer Epiphone to Gibson. Prices aside I would take a vintage Epi over a vintage gibson and an elitist/USA epi over a new standard Gibson. There's something about them. Almost a reverse psychology snobbery...

Epiphone Vintage/Lennon/ vs ES 330 - I'd go for a casino

Vintage/Elitist Sheraton/Riviera vs New ES 335 - I'd go for an Epi again. Prefer the Sheri finish over the gibson tear drop

Sorrento vs ES 225TD - Not sure about this one... I like the ES 225TD but like the Epi "Ice Tea" finish.

If I had to play a solid body I would play a Junior, Melody Maker (originaly ENTRY LEVEL guitars) or Crestwood, Olympic, Wilshire, Coronet. I just think they're cooler than SGs and Les Pauls...

Please tell me that you aren't the latest version of Nelson. Whenever a newbie joins up and starts trashing Epiphones, we all get a sense of deja vu. You're getting decidedly...Nelsonesque.

I like and respect Epiphone for making archtops and semis affordable. It would stick in my craw to pay the type of money expected for a Gibson ES-335. I wish Epi could maintain some real consistency...because there's something very cool about the Epiphone_Logo.jpg all the way around...

I wish they hadn't phased out the Elitists. That range was a great way of getting professional grade instruments into the hands of everyday musicians...Now we have to look beyond Epi for those kind of thrills, for example...

...a great guitar, but somehow it just doesn't have the vibe of an (Elitist) Epiphone Sheraton...

Nope.. I just tell y'all my honest opinion. Truth is not always kind.

That was Nelson's attitude as well. Everyone else had opinions (and they were all wrong). Only he spoke the truth, and he made it hurt whenever possible.

You might want to lighten up your rhetoric a bit. It is nice to be correct 100% of the time, but very few people can pull it off. This forum is for exchange of ideas, not one-up-manship.

Maybe because it's true! I have both and the Epis do not even come close. Also it seems that the Epi owners are always the first to bring up the comparison about how their Epis are "as good as a Gibson"' date=' rarely the other way around.[/quote']

Ah but what im not saying that the're as "good as a Gibson", im saying some epiphones are BETTER then a gibson, all the elitists, masterbuilt and alot of the korean models (Such as my rivieras, not that im bragging, im just picky).

i see where you come from though, i mean i recently bought an epi les paul Silverburst and its aweful, but i think its because its just not been made propperly. Damn chinese.

However id like to throw any of my rivieras at a gibson and ask you to to say which is better, really ive tryed 335s and all those gibbo hollowbodys and im serious that my rivieras are just better. It surprised me a little but still.

Basically what im getting at is, everything made by epi before they moved to china was just as good (If not better) then a gibson. Its just nowaday epiphones that have slipped. Shame on you Epiphone! (Well, Gibson)

Aaaah' date=' the blind leading the deaf?

You cannot find a guitar on Earth for $300 that is anything but a waste of money.[/quote']

Heck, I knew I shoulda paid more for my roundhouse..LOL.... to each their own, dollar amount means sh!t as far as something being a waste. I have seen stuff go for thousands that could be called a waste and I have seen stuff for $100 that isn't a waste.Price of anything can't be used to judge quality or if its a waste.... Thus why these VS threads just generally suck. For every 5 guys you find that say you need to spend $3000 on a gibson to get good sound, you will find 5 guys that may have spent $300 and have no complaints... For the $300 I spent on my used Reverend Roundhouse with 2 p90's, I'd be very willing to see how it compares to any newer Gibson Les Paul with 2 p90's that cost lots more new or used. I am more satisfied with my Rev and its p 90's then I was with my Epi with p90's and I liked that guitar. Would I buy another Epi with p90's? sure, just might change out the pups this time, whereas many seem to like the epi p90's...

I cringe whenever a thread like this starts as it always degenerates onto a war of words. Epiphone and Gibson are two very different companies (I know...), and they are aiming at different audiences. Both can do the same job. Both are fine instruments. Let me blindfold you and tell me that you can hear the difference.

Those of us who played in the early 1960's know the difference between "cheap crap" and a good instrument. Epiphone in 2009 is not cheap crap. If you're willing to invest thousands and feel that you need a Gibson, that's great. Let's try not to bash Epiphones on an Epiphone forum. :D

Wow, YOU've got a lot to learn.........

Grab up a Washburn D-10 and say that again

or even (e-gads) a Mitchell 12 string.........

BOTH are well under $300 and have good action, good sound, and will last a while.

Had my D-10 for many years now.........made a LOT of music on it...........still plays quite well.

Amen and halleylooya (however that's spelled...)

I wish it was possible to sound better just by dropping a lot of money for an expensive guitar, but the truth is that the only real way to improve ones tone is by playing better.

Jeffery Smith said "This forum is for exchange of ideas, not one-up-manship." a few posts back.

I think that needs the rider "in most cases" added, because a lot of folk seem to come here just to put down other people, and to big themselves up. (Not unique to this forum either, sadly.....).

The up-side is the likes of Jeffery Smith, Charlie Brown and a slew of others (too many to mention) who come here just to chew the fat about guitars in general and Epis in particular. It's about what sounds good for you, what feels good for you and what you want or are able to pay for your play. And more than anything - it's about helping each other, and it's about the music, NOT whether your guitar is better than his or how many notes to the second you can play faster than the other guy, or gal.

That is probably why there are fewer ladies than blokes on here - they are to busy playing guitar and having fun with their fellow musos to waste time trying to out-macho the testosterone fuelled guitar-hero posturing that these forum fire-fights usually degenerate into.....

I've heard it said many times that "anyone can make a great guitar sound good..........it takes a person with talent to make a cheap guitar sound good"

Heheeeee,..this is without doubt the case for me.... :-

Well, the bottom line (for me) is that I truly wish Epiphone (no matter where it's made) would adhere to Gibson (and Old Epiphone) specs, and construction detail. I had high hopes, that having a dedicated factory in China, would allow for that, at a decent price point. However, it seems, they've adopted the "short cut" techniques, in too many cases...a lot of which we've seen on these pages. For Me, the exception, was the Riviera P-93LE, which is a great guitar. The only thing I wish they'd have done differently, really, is the truss rod adjustment, to be like the old Epiphone, and current Gibsons. Not a big deal, really...but it would have felt, and looked more true to Gibson/Epiphone standards. Unless Gibson is afraid that people will stop buying REAL Gibson's, I don't see why they don't build them like they used to, even if it's IN China! I really don't think the Japanese "Elitist" models killed the purchasing of the Gibson like models. There will always be those who want, and will only buy "Gibson," anyway. Gibson's worst enemy here, is their own (rediculous, IMHO) pricing! Besides, since Gibson owns Epiphone, they still made money! So, I honestly don't know what was behind doing away with the "Elitist" line, and no one at Gibson or Epiphone is talking. BUT...if they are going to continue with taking the "Cheap" route, in construction, and materials, what was the point in building a "dedicated" plant?! Can't be just "cheap labor," they could have had that, with just Chinese contractor factories. Like some of the "Fakes" are made in. What would be ironic, and very, very sad, is IF the "fakes" turn out to be better made, than the "Real" Chinese Epiphones! That, would be the final nail in their coffin, for me.
