what the difference?

I'm not an expert in electric guitars, I've only really played acoustics, but I've started getting into electrics, and I really fancy building up a little Epiphone collection.

But the one type I haven't got just yet is an arch top - and oddly it was Noel and his Epiphones that first got me into playing guitar all those years ago.

so my question is - how do these all rank against each other? from what I can see there is basically:

Casino

Dot

Sheraton

so of these which is the "best"? sound, looks, finish etc and which "variation" is the one to go for? supernova, lucile etc

The Casino is an entirely different guitar from the Dot or Sheraton II. The Casino is a hollowbody guitar with P-90s, while the Dot or Sheraton II are semi-hollow with humbuckers.

The Lucille is essentially an ES-345, or a Dot with a Varitone selector switch. Not having anything with a Varitone, I can't describe what it does, but it's a feature to think about.

The Dot and Sheraton II are very similar. The primary differene is cosmetic, and a difference in the neck. A standard Sheraton has mini-humbuckers, while the Sheraton II has full-size humbuckers.

The Supernova, as far as I can tell (and I've never played one) is essentially a Dot with the selector switch in a different place.

A vote for the Sheraton here too. Though I've changed the pickups out for GFS Dream 90's, P90's in a humbucker sized case. With all your twin humbucker guitars, this would certainly give you some different tones.

The other guitar in my pic is an EA250, a hollow body from the early 70's. Nice enough but not worth the money they go for these days.

If you go for a Sheraton, have a look at some of the comments here recently about the quality of the new Chinese ones. You can't go too wrong with most of the ones you come across second hand.

Unless you want to spend some time finding a "sweet spot" to play from due to feedback.......the Dot or Sheraton II is the way to go.......I prefer the Sheraton because it sounded the best when I "test drove" it, against a Dot and a Dot Deluxe.

You'll find lots of different opinions here, so concider them all, then go and play everything you can find before making the final decision.

Whatever you do get, i'd try for a lightly used Korean model over a new Chinese.

Heres mine.........

I prefer the Casino, but I admit, it is entirely a matter of personal taste.

Why?

1) P90 pickups - I just love the sound. Especially when playing clean, nothing sounds better.

2) The Casino is an acoustic guitar. Granted, it isn't a great acoustic guitar, but it is definitely good enough for practice without an amp -- so I can pick it up any time I want, even if it is only for a minute or two to bang out a few scales

3) Light weight, the Casino weighs only about 6 pounds, which my shoulder likes a lot

But mostly it's that beautiful P90 sound.

I suggest that you try some out at local music stores if you can and decide what you like the best.

They're pretty hot; I love 'em. I bought this guitar because I'm a huge fan of the P90s. One of my amps is a low powered, all original 1956 Magnatone. You should hear them through that thing.

Cheers.

So' date=' what's a better guitar then - Sheraton II or Riviera?

opinions? [/quote']

It depends what you want. As far as quality, they are comparable if the factory did its job. But the pu config makes 'em different dogs entirely. "Better" depends on which would fit your style the best.

And in your original Dot vs Sheraton vs Casino question....

Unless money is an issue, I would reccomend taking the Dot out of the equation vs these other 2.

I have a Sheraton that I like alot-it but is no longer stock. That said, if I was thinking about doing it again, I'd go with the Casino over Sheraton. Mainly because of a love affair i have w/ an Epi Wildkat...those P90's are the bomb! But these are both comparable guitars in build quality and features-the regular 699.00 or whatever they are these days I'm talking about..it depends on your style and what you want.

Varitone was mentioned too w/ the Lucille model...

I have a varitone rigged guitar tho not a Lucille...Gib L6S solidbody...the varitone is a very nifty feature. Makes the guitar a little more versatile as it can come pretty close to some Fenderesque tones.
