clarkuss Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Warning: my camera is old and crappy! There's another Vox escort 50w Lead amp not present. Also wanted to point out that the Rickenbacker and the ET are making way for an Elitist Casino and an Elite Les Paul Standard. I'm not rich so i can't afford to keep them all. I'm actually a poor student, the following being the reason for the 'poor' part and also the lack of studiousness: My Favourites: 1996 Epiphone Casino (Peerless) and 2006 Epiphone Casino (Unsung) The Departing 1992 Rickenbacker 330/12 and the 1970s Epiphone ET 275 2003 Epiphone Dot Cherry (Peerless), 2004 Epiphone Dot Natural (Peerless), 2003 Dot Deluxe VSB (Saein) 90s Samick SF 28 (converted to Electro Acoustic)[Korea], 90s Takamine EG 334RC Electro Acoustic[Taiwan], 2003/4 Tanglewood Limited Edition Sundance TW-12F Electro Acoustic [Korea]. 2006/7 Hofner Contemporary Series Club [China] Vox Valvetronix AD50VT, 70s Vox Escort 30-70 watt (top), 70s Vox Escort 50 watt Lead (bottom, 1 of 2), Marshall AVT100X The Lot (minus the club, forgot it!). The Pic is a Kinks tribute painting by my friend Patrick. "Victoria, Victoria..." Also own these but they're boxed for a rainy day or a camping trip. in Britain, likely to be the same day... The Ones To Come!! Epiphone Elite Les Paul Standard and 2000 Epiphone Elite Casino
jrich44 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 great collection :D although you must be sad to see the ricky go?
Lord Summerisle Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Nice one Clarkuss. When I was a student I had a Yamaha Pacifica and a Fender Prinecton 112. And then a Fender American Standard Telecaster and a Laney VC50. You've assembled quite a collection there, however. Congratulations on spending your student loan on something other than beer!
clarkuss Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 Haha! Yes, being in a band you get a lot of free beer but I've spent an awful lot on Gin and Chinese Takeaways as well. Wasted youth eh? The Casinos are a funny story. I got the Peerless one with my first student loan instalment back in 2004. It was stolen from my house and when it came back there was a rattle in the neck so I took it to a shop and they gave an insurance quote: that the truss rod had an internal break and it was a write off. I got the second Casino as the replacement and they never took the other one. Then about a year later I took the old one in to have the truss rod glued and tightened as best as it could be done at another shop and the guy said it was not broken but just loose so he tightened it up and set it up. So I got two for the price of one! The ET278 was cheap as chips, the Deluxe given to me by my first record company, the Gretsches bought for me by my old manager and the two Dots I bought for about £400 in the last month. I was given a few from my Dad as he upgraded his acoustic (Takamine, Samick, Vox Escort 30-70) The hofner club was another student loan job at a bargain price of £200 with a hard case (ebay) and the Tanglewood I bought with my own money after having a full time job in the summer of 2004. I will be sad to see the Ricky go but I know that I'll get another one once I actually get a proper job! I'd probably go for the harrison model. I find the thick/thin configuration of Rickenbackers harder than I imagined but i haven't played it much. I want one of these as a replacement: (I'll get a custom gretsch alike pick guard though) Alden 12 string
clarkuss Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 Sex Pistols? They could do with some of the lyrics in the Gibson thread: "Don't be told what you want Don't be told what you need"
marcelo94 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 love the Epiphone ET-278, and the Hofner Club :D
mgrmatt Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Great lineup you got there Clarkuss! That's a fine pair of Casino's and a perfect illustration of the different Vintage Sunburst variations. Those Hofners, whether it's a 500/1 or a 500/2 are a blast to play! mgm
clarkuss Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 I love the look of that Hofner but it's worth about as much as I paid for it. Not up to scratch with the solid sturdy stuff from Germany. My dad has an 80s/90s Hofner Violin Bass and it's incredible. This Club's ok, done a job but very trebly and not much tone to it. The guitarist in my band has used it for almost a year but now he's using the Cherry Dot. He has a Gibson SG but.... well, we don't talk about that. He prefers the Dot anyway.
clarkuss Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Thanks, wouldn't mind some of those Epiphone Amps in your avator though!
JohnMcClane5000 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 how are these Gretsch Americana acoustics`? Are they any good? Hows the resonance? Are they any good for playing in the streets or so?
IntelligentAl Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Very nice collection you have there, Clarkuss. Those two Casinos are very cool indeed. Apart from the aesthetics and the factories they were made in, are there any differences between them?
AS90 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Nice collection! I am always gassing for a Casino but as soon as I pick up a MIC model it passes. Maybe its because I have an Elitist Sheraton, I am expecting too much. Are the Elitist Casinos a million times better or just a bit better? Frenchie has a 1983 Matsumoku Casino in Natural for sale which looks amazing.
clarkuss Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 how are these Gretsch Americana acoustics`? Are they any good? Hows the resonance? Are they any good for playing in the streets or so? I'm afraid they're still in their boxes. I was given them as a set and felt it would be best to put them away in a cupboard for a few years until they're unavailable. If they don't appreciate at all in value I'll take them out and play them or hang them on the walls. They're 3/4 size and weren't expensive new so can't imagine they're much more than a novelty guitar although i believe they're all wood. Very nice collection you have there' date=' Clarkuss. More comfortable neck, sturdier feel and was better set up when I got it. The other one is my main guitar though and it needs a new set up and I'm hoping to upgrade the bridge and nut in the very near future. Both of them could do with new tuners but I think this changes from guitar to guitar and I've replaced the selector switch on both. I'd say the Peerless one has a nicer overall sound and feel but is more jazzy but they're not miles apart. Nice collection! Frenchie has a 1983 Matsumoku Casino in Natural for sale which looks amazing.[/quote'] I haven't got my Elitist Casino yet but the last time I saw one it felt quite magical. Just seemed a much higher class of instrument to be honest. Not played a matsumoku one either but it's worth a go eh, korean or japanese? Casinos dont see to lose their selling on value do they?
AS90 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Matsumokus are Japanese. There is a Matsumoku Riviera on ebay at the mo but he want too much for it.
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Sorry I phrased that badly. I knew the Matsumoku were Japanese (have been close to buying a matsumoku Casino and an Emperor in recent weeks but went to high for my current bank balance) What I meant was whether Korean or Japanese (90s, Matsumoku or Elite) they are all worth having a go. The Korean ones might not be in the same class as the Japanese (from what people generally say) but they're still a high class instrument and built very well. I've played a lot of Casinos as they're my favourite guitars. If money allows I'd suggest you get hold of one. Over here the Peerles ones tend to sell for much higher than the chinese models or even the newer korean models (unsung) so that might be a good pointer in the right direction. I'm not sure about in the states but in the UK the Casinos tend to hold their value pretty well so if you buy a second hand one you should always get back what you paid for it (if selling on ebay). Then again, maybe the P-90s, light body and smaller neck are too much of a departure from the sheraton for you? I mainly play rythm guitar and old rock'n'roll but I've owned a Sheri and have a Dot Deluxe. Didn't like them at first but I basically had to play the Dot because it was my only working guitar at the time and I soon got used to it. Now I love it and always turn to it when I want a big chunky rock tone over my more delicate 60s vibe that i get from my casino.
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 I've received an offer for the Rickenbacker so it's definitely going now... But the Les Paul Standard arrives on Thursday!!
snaredrum Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 aldens are great guitars. they seem to be Eastwoods and jay tursers but UK and cheaper - i had the sg jr and it was ace. for a harrison 12 string, try and find an Italia rimini 12. i have one, it's like the second desing 260/12 but cheaper

I usually prefer slim tapered necks so the Casino would be fine in that aspect, its the hollow sound I dig the most. I have just bought a Greco Les Paul with a semi hollow top which sounds interesting!
Svet Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Awesome collection Clarkuss! And you are really adding to it with the Elitist Casino and LP! Now if you get a chance to try the Sheraton you will really be in heaven! I feel that the Elitist Sheraton is the Crown Jewel of the Elitist range!
clarkuss Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 I would absolutely love a sheraton. It was the Elitist Sheraton that really brought my attention to the Elitist range because I loved the normal Sheraton II but didn't like the Gibsonesque finishes. Plus you get the mini humbuckers!! Got to love that. They're very hard to come by over in the UK though. RE: Casino. I just played my Peerless one with the band for the first time in a while and it's much more prone to feedback than the Unsung Casino I have.
