ansla Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Or is that a re-reissue already? :( Anyways, with mini humbuckers this time! I e-mailed them for ETA and they have no idea yet, could go as far as after the summer. Specs: Epiphone Aged Wilshire Reissue DCH E-Guitar Solid Mahogany body and set neck with rosewood fingerboard Body - reproduction of mid-60's Epiphone Wilshire Neck - very slim & fast with 22 Frets Medium/jumbo frets 2 Tone, 2 Volume, 3 way pickup selector switch 2 passive humbuckers - (wax potted) Grover 6 in-line tuners Finish Distressed Cherry And finally, the link to the store.
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 This one originally came out before the 62 Custom Historic Version that's made in america and limited to 100 models and a price tag to match. The one you're looking at is based on a later model with Batwing headstock and the long pick guard rather than the more symetrical 'coronet' one and are made in China, set neck as well which is better than the Japanese 70s models which had Bolt on necks. NEW 62 Custom Historic Sixties Catalogue of Solid Bodies 70s Solid bodies
pohatu771 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I might have to buy that new one... You don't see a solidbody with mini-humbuckers that often.
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I almost bought one the other day but too many other guitars got in the way. I think they'll be cracking little players, even if a little work had to be done but you can't tell until you get it! I only just realised what you meant by re-reissue with the mini humbuckers as the one i was going to buy was the full sized humbuckers that you were obviously referring to in the re-reissue comment. Apologies!
ansla Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 I only just realised what you meant by re-reissue with the mini humbuckers as the one i was going to buy was the full sized humbuckers that you were obviously referring to in the re-reissue comment. No problem! Especially after posting those pics, I haven't seen those before. Very informative. I had one of those cheap reissues with fullsize humbuckers. Nice red one. I paid 177 euros for it plus shipping, which was around 20 euros. A real sweet deal, and there was some confusion with my order so the store forgot to bill me for a hard case (or then they just thought it would be a cool gesture). Sold that guitar for profit a couple months later. That always bugged me a bit (not selling it for profit, just selling it in general). I think I got to get one of these. Good thing is that there'll be money to spend on getting it set up right by a pro. I also like the fact that the finish is "worn"... not because of looks, but because it usually means the finish is thinner.
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Yeah I think a thinner finish would be much better than the 'dipped in plastic' feel of some of the full on finishes. I hate selling guitars as well and up until about a year ago refused to sell any of my guitars but then i realised that I had 2-3 guitars lying about that I never played and have slowly started weed out the non-players for my colection to slowly upgrade some guitars and get ones that will actually come out of the case!
Guest icantbuyafender Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 that red one from the original post.... i thought the ones that were sold through january were the reissues.. the white ones with full humbuckers and batwing headstock they have it available in worn cherry? ive only seen the all white ones that were sold last year through this jan/feb'09 they had epiphone custom shop stamped in gold on the back of the batwing... a friend has one. does this mean if they resume production that they will not be stamped as limited edition? ahhh im confused!
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I thought the original reissue was white only as well but this was sold on ebay the other day: The ones with mini humbuckers seem to be a new run not yet available with aged finishes:
Guest icantbuyafender Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 so... the white ones were like a anniversary celebration... or like all "hey look Im backk!!!"??? a literal limited production... and these minihumbuckered beauties have aged finishes and are not yet available? i ordered a wilshire early feb and MF was sold out till april they said but my order is still pending... does this mean i could end up getting the mini humbuckered version? or will I have to settle with the very very very bright white one (assuming they put it back in production as a regular product) ? im still confused... i just know my order is pending....
clarkuss Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I don't think the original white ones are any different from the red one with full sized hubuckers. I don't see any custom shop on the headstock unless it's one of the round epiphone seals on the back. The ones with the mini humbuckers look like a future release for sometime this year. You should ask them what product it is you've ordered and in what finish etc.
Guest icantbuyafender Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 yeah that gold seal so, the red and white ones were released together? but only the whites were available through MF or something? catalogues only showed white... hmm.... i think calling would be a good decision lol
EL-KABONG! Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 white came first music123 exclusive june 06 german epi dealers had cherry and white later mf gc and all the bigs got em in 07 and again in 08
kevin134 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Red ones are available through regular authorized Epiphone dealers, and White ones through musician friend and I thought Guitar Center had some on their site at one time. The Mini Humbucker model will defintely be on my wish list if it becomes available
EL-KABONG! Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Here's a store in Germany that is already selling them- They have the mini-hums in black and cherry FWOW! http://www.thomann.de/fi/search_dir.html?xsid=7aa36986e9d19d20f4d6be00fdd41a6a&sw=wilshire Never mind: They deleted the photos and links to the "Aged" ones
clarkuss Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 A couple of us have emailed them and they said they won't be in untilat least the summer if not later. I don't like paying for guitars if I have no idea when I'm going to get them.
jerome_travis Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Will they be around the same price as musician friend's? where do you guys get news of this new model? I went to the epi main web and i see nothing.. haha..
clarkuss Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html They've got pics and specs for a new Wilshire, a new model called an Emperor Swingstar and a limited edition Casino with USA pick ups. None of these have been released yet so I'm only assuming they're new models for 2009. I've emailed Thomann (who are normally very reliable) and they said these models will be available sometime this year. Thomann are pricing the wilshire at £250.00
jerome_travis Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 thnks mate! I was just about to order the big hum version till I chanced upon this! thnks mates!
clarkuss Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 No problem. Looks like these new ones will have a thinner finish too which can only be a good thing if the recent chinese finishes are anything to go by! I quite fancy a cherry one and a black one and at £250 a pop you can't go wrong can you?
jerome_travis Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I fancy the cherry ones too.. too bad shipping is going to cost me quite a bit.. Do you think these babies will need to warant a chance in pups? For some reason it seems like they'll sound great on their own..
