guitarstrummer
Stop letting your hampster run loose inside of your guitar!! It should last longer than a couple of years. Are you the original owner? Did you register the warranty? If so, have a dealer check it out.
Taylor Player
any way you could drop a small digital camera in the sound hole and take a photo? I would love to see what you mean and then compare it to my 2005 AJ. Do you change strings often? What gauge do you keep on it? Are you an aggressive strummer? (Just trying to see why the bridge plate would wear out in 3 years?!?!?!?!
jefleppard
are you near lansing? the techs at elderly are amazing. pop in and ask them if you can. sounds like unnatural wear for a 3 year old.
guitarstrummer
Don't think Elderly's is an authorized Gibson dealer/service center. If they make the repair, they'd probably charge him.
Gman
I took a close look at the bridge plate there seems to be a chunk of wood missing between the A and D not in line but to the front of the B pins other than that half of the ball ends are embedded halfway into the plate. To answer taylor player I change strings about once every 2 months depends on the playing time. I am an agressive strummer. I use ej16s and JP 600s. getting back to the chunk that's missing I believe it was gone before I owned it and I bought it new from GC I've cleaned the guitar out and never found any wood. Talor Player does your AJ have a cap on the heel? Mine does I have not seen another AJ with a heel cap I'll take the guitar to Huber Breese they are authorised. If it needs to be replaced I'll send it back to Gibson if possible. Thanks for all your feed back. gman

eds111
I would be shocked if this was from wear. My guess is that this is a by-product of the manufacturing process. When they drill the holes for the pins, they probably do not use a backing block (Martin doesn't) the result is tear out or splintered wood. One of those splinters could have been large. This looks sloppy, but it shouldn't be a problem unless it is huge. Would love to see a picture as well.

Gman
Taylor Player You don't have a heel cap. I have a white heel cap on the bottom of the heel of the neck that matches the binding.Mine is the only one I've seen like this. Being from GC I know it's not a custom. I*'m sure there are more like this ,I just have not seen any
