mirage10 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Hi, I've got an amp attenuator that I've made just the same as the one here http://www.guitarpug.com/2008/07/diy-wattage-attenuator-box/ It's 8 ohm and it works well, but I'd like to use it with my 16 ohm amp into a 16 ohm speaker (Valve Jr). Does anyone know if it's possible to mod a 8 ohm variable L-pad to work with a 16 ohm speaker? Because I live in New Zealand the cost of trying to import a 16 ohm variable L-pad is horrendous. Any help would be appreciated.
m-theory Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I'm not even close to an expert on the subject, but I don't believe you can do much with an L-pad, in terms of impedance. You might have to start over and build a resistive attenuator instead. If you had big money into it already, this would be a great option, (though it hardly makes sense with a $20 project attenuator) https://taweber.powweb.com/store/attenmatch.htm What you really need is something like this: https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/lpld.htm Make sure you use speaker cable into and out of these things.
