Fabri Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Hi guys, Ive found a used JL Revolution at interesting price and the number indicated in the inside label is AO920 of 1,965. So.. 'What does that AO mean? On all JL Revolution photos on the web I've always read only the number without any letter before (i.e. for example '340 of 1,965').... And then 'May I know from this number whes this guitar has been manufactured?'.... Can anybody reply to above questions? Thank You for attention Ciao! Fabri

Fabri[/quote'] All the Lennon Casinos are made by Terada in Japan AFAIK. I don't know about the AO, mine just has the number:
clarkuss Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I always though they were made in america. Hence the USA Casino. Still though, no idea about the AO
duane v Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 From what I've been told, the lettered prefix are the JL guitars that were put aside just in case for warranty replacement. Now that the warranty has expired, some were sold at Gibson yard sales, then they were completed by whomever purchased them. I purchased a JL Rev that had no hardware on Ebay about 1.5 year ago and it had the same letter prefix on the white label. After experiencing difficulty on even trying to get a nickel plated trapeze bridge, I just bagged the parts and sold it to a pal at work. But now I regret doing so, because I could have loaded that sucker with CC pups...... I eventually broke down and purchased a real one on a private auction and its 5xx of 1965. If you purchased it used, the previous owner may of had warranty work that required body and neck replacement, and thus the lettered prefix on the white label.

Vic Flick Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I always though they were made in america. Hence the USA Casino. Still though' date=' no idea about the AO[/quote'] I believe the guitars were constructed at the Terada plant in Japan, shipped to the US unfinished. The nitro was applied here, and the guitar assembled in the USA with genuine Gibson parts. I think the official terminology is Assembled in the USA as opposed to Made in the USA. Welcome back' date=' Jerry![/quote'] Thanks Red
clarkuss Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Ah ok. That makes sense. Thanks for that bit of info! I almost bought one of these the other day. I think I'll be happy with an elite for now... "it won't be long, yeah (yeah)..." I'm meeting the guy next month to buy it from him and cannot wait. Especially after getting an elite les paul last week.
frenchie1281734003 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Thanks Red Great to see you posting again Jerry! Welcome back. As for that serial, I have seen similar before on a Lennon 65 reissue, I don`t know what the "A" stands for, but the "O" is a Zero, maybe to stop someone putting another digit at the front of the serial? I don`t know.... but I think at least three different people numbered those labels, one did them like Jerry`s and mine, another puts a line through their sevens, and this person with the "AO"so it may just be one persons style.

I believe this is possible as the Tedara shop does output some nitro finished guitars. Not that it matters, but it would be nice to one day have definitive history of the JL Casinos and other Japanese Epiphones like the Elitists. They're great guitars. Red 333
Fabri Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 Hi Guys.. well ive got an official (and prompt!) reply from Gibson Europe Service, maybe it can be useful for somebody else.....: "The guitar appears to be original. The serial number A0920 refers in our database to a John Lennon 1965 Casino however, as a factory second, sales promotion merchandise. The A is part of the indication for the serial numbers issued at the time, like was done back in the late 50s and begin 60s.This guitar was never meant to be sold." Thanks to everybody, have a lot of good music Ciao Fabri
