jozluck Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 [just wondering if anyone knows which is the best fit as a replacement...also, can you perminately mount the bridge with a sound board underplate and brass screws and nuts? I hate the way it is and how it moves when you play it.... Have had it toned and ported, new electronics Gibson 500 pots, 57' humbuckler and need only one more new humbuckler...but this bridge I need to replace and I think the old one sucks energy out of the strings... joe Anyone who actually knows what they are talking about please reply.... /b]
TommyK Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Do you have make? model? year? pics? Generally speaking Gibson and Epiphone have, historically, glued their bridges to the sound board, then to add suspenders to the belt, they put bolts through the bridge and bridge plate with nuts on the underside. The bolt heads are counterbored and pluged flush with the surface of the bridge. Not sure you want to take the glue out of the assembly. Of late, though, I've been hearing owners of new Gibsons don't have these bolts. Martin hasn't done this in generations. But to Gibson, this is new territory... IF.... what I've been hearing is true. If anything, dispense with the bolts and just hide glue it. Curious? What do you mean by bridge movement?
