matiac
I'm thinking wiring pickups "out-of-phase" will only change the tone and cancel hum if both pickups are used at the same time, I think they're wired like that anyway, I know if I use 2 pickups at once on the Squier, the hum is cancelled. Maybe I'm wrong, but with any single coil equipped guitar I've ever used, if I use 2 pickups together, the hum is cancelled, I'm thinking reversing the wiring on one will put it out of phase with the other. How about a "dummy coil"? I've heard of people using that to good effect.
Notes_Norton
Thanks!!! Right now I'm leaning towards the noise gate (see this thread on this same forum) and bringing a spare humbucker guitar to that place when we return. I really don't want to re-wire the guitar if I don't have to. I thought if it were something as simple as reversing the leads it would be OK, but obviously it's a lot more involved than I thought. But I'm learning about guitar here, and that's a good thing!!! Notes
Goldie
I use a ISP Decimator with my P90 guitar, and it kills the hum quite nicely.
