P93 vs. P94

P-93 has (of course) 3 P-90 pickups, where the Valensi has 2 P-94's that COULD be changed to "Humbuckers" if you decided to go that way, without any body modifications. The only thing you could do, to the P-93, if you end up not liking the P-90's, is add "stacked P-90's" (SP-90's from Duncan, or P-100's from Gibson), without modding the body.

Also...Some don't care for the middle pickup (they feel it's "in the way") on the Riviera P-93LE. I have one,

and it does NOT bother me, at all. But some folks, it does. The P-93 has a Bigsby (Asian), the Valensi has the

Frequensator tailpiece.

Quality wise, except for the obvious finish (color) differences, they should be similar, if not identical. I have NO "issues" with my P-93, at all! I may upgrade the tuners to Grovers, at some future point, but they don't really "need it"...yet, anyway. So, that would be a "personal" choice, more than a functional one. I LOVE the tone, I get from the P-93...it has all the P-90 tones you could ask for, and with the middle pickup, it gets into kind of a "Gretsch" tonality, at times. Quite varied, that way. The P-93 is a great "player," too..IMHO.

I don't own a "Valensi" so I can't speak to that one...but, those that do, seem to like them, a LOT! So...??? If you can,

try them both, see which one you prefer. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either, though.

Good Luck!

Cheers,

CB

On every other 3-pickup guitar I've ever played the middle pickup has been in my way but for some reason I don't have that problem with my P-93.

As for which one to get I don't think you can go wrong. The Velensi plays great with it's thin neck but the P-93 is such a unique guitar I don't think you can lose either way.

thanks charlie brown! this is very informative.. (: is the 93 very verstatile? say can i do jazz and crank up some Muse as well?

P-93 can do anything, really, save maybe high gain "Metal," which it's not really designed for,

due mostly to it's semi-hollow body nature, which would be more prone to feedback. But, even

that can be "dealt with." Otherwise, it can do Jazz, Country, Classic Rock, Blues etc., with ease.

"Versatility" is more in execution, than a limit of the guitar, most times...IMHO. Oh, I guess it's

wouldn't be considered a "Shredder's" guitar, but...maybe given the right "Shredder," it could even

do that?! LOL! I've seen some jazz and country players that could certainly "shred" on it. ;>)

But again...I'd recommend that you play both, see which one YOU prefer. The Valensi is a fine guitar,

as well. Especially the "Elitist" version..but, they're pretty difficult to find, these days.

I play "shoegazing", ambient and psychedelic rock with my p93 and my pedal setup (look at the avatar) and that guitar never lets me down.

I use a little big muff and it handles it so well...

Not a problem at all if you ask me. AND I abuse guitars with pedals.

if everything goes according to plan I will order the valensi nxt week! anything I should look out for / swap out?

I don't think you'll be disappointed with your Valensi. I also don't think you'll need to change anything out. I am absolutely enthralled with mine. It will almost certainly be Korean-made. The wood in mine seems to be above the standard grade that the MIC's now seem to be using (at least the cosmetics of it). Mine has quite a bit of quilt on both the top and bottom, and I really like the vintage natural tint they use. And the P94s absolutely kick ***.

All around, a very fine guitar. Enjoy.

epiphone is not replying to the emails too..

Gee' date=' that's [i']so [/i]not like them... rolleye0011.gif Last time I emailed Epiphone it took a long time to hear back. Try changing your name to Jimmy Page and buy a Gibson LP, then you might hear back in under a month . . .

if you end up not liking the P-90's' date=' is add "stacked P-90's" (SP-90's from Duncan, or P-100's from Gibson)

[/quote']

Just FYI. The Seymour Duncan SP-90 is a regular P90. The "stacked" version is called a P-90 Stack STK-P1.

No Way! LOL! Besides...I don't do "Youtube," it would be WAY to embarrassing! LOL!

In fact, I'm so shy it's amazing (to me, anyway) that I can even get up

in front of people, to play with a band, every other weekend. ;>b

I guess my 30+ year hiatus, and the strides made in guitar playing (in general)

intimidates me, a bit? Who knows?! ;>)

I think I would have to delete my account here if that ended up being CB...

LOL! Well....the only thing that guy and I have in common, is the Guitar,

and maybe our age (he looks younger, though.."Just For Men" haircolor, maybe)??? ;>)

But, at least he's got the cahones, to put it out there. I'll give him that...
