Hi

It's simple really. It's a Riviera in turquoise ! The turquoise colour started in 1999 and featured on the front of the catalogue for that year although it was shown on a Casino. Colour wasn't too popular and didn't make it to the next catalogue as far as I can see. Can't tell you the factory but it's not Japanese (general production stopped there in '83) so it's probably Korean. The serial number should be on the back of the headstock.

I am guessing that is one of the early MIK Samick or Peerless models. The early Peerless models had the dull inlays instead of the swirls in the plastic.

It is not really a Riviera so much as a nice Dot with a Bigsby and trapazoid inlays. It is kind of like my Jorma, which they also call a Riviera for some reason.

The Riviera is supposed to have the mini-HBs and the frequesnsator tail piece, so I know the call it a Riviera but it is really an upgraded Dot with a Bigsby/inlays and that is not a bad thing.

As far as I know the Peerless Rivieras are smaller than the Dots in both Body and Neck and also the block inlays feature on the riviera. A 1999 "Riviera" would most likely be made in the Peerless factory. I've never seen a Samick made riviera or casino.

If you like the look and you have the money then buy it because it is a well made guitar.

2nd that one.

If it is a Peerless model it should also have the inside ribbed bracing holding the top and the bottom together.

This is more like a 335 construction than the Dots that just have the top glued to the bottom.

I have owned Peerless Dots in the past but never checked, did they build the Dots the same way with the ribbed bracing also?

My Riviera and Jorma both Peerless models have them. My Supernova, not sure what plant does not like the newer Dots.
