Mattt0192
Hey guys, I usually kick around on the electric forum but I had a question... What would I do in order to change an acoustic... which I have no problem messing up.... into an acoustic bass?
pohatu771
Move the bridge back a few inches and not care about intonation... Otherwise, you can put heavier strings on... and still not care too much about tuning. Paul McCartney did it when he first started playing bass as a Beatle. http://www.thecanteen.com/mccartney2.html
TommyK
Simply moving the saddle backwards doesn't work as nicely as it might on a solid body guit tar. The bracing is all wrong and you'll end up destrying the top. Best way is to find a cheap bolt-on neck acoustic, lengthen the neck, or rather install a longer neck, which you'll have to manufacture yourself to the current specs of an existing acoustic bass. Then put on heavier strings with a concomitant rework / replacement of the nut. --- or --- http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rogue-AB304-AcousticElectric-Series-II-Bass-?sku=512223 ---or--- Make your own from scrap. http://tubotonia.freehomepage.com/Tublinks.html No, I meant scrap, not scratch.
