Sorry to stray from my previous topics of the goltop and standard plus, but this is for a friend whos internet crashed or smthing and cant check himself . He wanted me to find out all I could about the Eoiphone casino cherry. so some questions for owners :

 

Are the pickups good? better quality than other epi's?

Is feedback bad if a overdrive pedal was used? Is feedback bad at all for sounds other than clean tones?

tuners? are they good?

There are hundreds of great reviews of the Casino online if you doa google search but for what it's worth, the Casino is my favourite guitar. Epi's stock pickups are great and it seems like they haven't had too much trouble making them in the past 50 or so years. Every Casino model, including the new Chinese ones seem to have been given rave reviews by the majority who have played them..

 

I own two and I'm buying a 3rd on tuesday. As far as feedback/distortion goes, I've not experienced too many troubles in this department but it can always be worked around with clear tape or f hole plugs if desired.

 

There aren't too many fully hollow guitars out there with P-90s with as good a record as the Casino so if that's the desired sound it's a winner in my book! Either that or getting a dot and putting P-94s in it but it's not quite the same.

 

Has a lovely lightweight feel and great slim neck.

My Casino is one of my favourite guitars. It has a very slim neck, which may turn some Les Paul fans off.

 

As far as pickups go, I can't compare them to any other Epiphone pickups, since I only have one Epiphone guitar, but they aren't as strong as my Seymour Duncan Hot P-90s - but the word "Hot" should be the reason why. They're certainly very good, though.

 

Feedback is an issue depending on many different things. A tube amp and the Casino react, but only if you pluck a string and then prop the guitar against the amp. It's never happened to me while I was just playing. Overdrive or distortion increases your chances of it happening, but at stage distance (ten feet or more from the amp) it's not a problem.

 

It's certainly a capable instrument - it may be known for it's rhtyhm abilities, but it handles lead quite well.. listen to Paul McCartney's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard for plenty of examples, as well as quite a few Beatle tracks - between Paul, John, and George, there was plenty of Casino going around.

The Casino is a terrific guitar. I wouldn't worry about the feedback. I played a fully hollowbody Guild onstage at ear-bleeding volumes for years. The ability to get feedback at will with a bit of added Bigsby flavor is one of the best parts about a hollowbody.

I love my Casino, it's my favorite guitar.

 

I play at about 110dba on stage and have no feedback problems.

 

It's lightweight, the neck is touch and go, and the P90 is my very favorite sounding pickup.

 

But then, we all have our different and personal tastes.

I think it's all been said. I've had 2. Loved both. Hate the tuning machines though. Changed to Grovers.

Yeah I hate mine as well. When you say you changed to grovers does that mean Kluson style grovers or "revolution" style grovers?

 

I like the vintage Kluson look and would probably want to keep them that style if i swapped them out. What are the best direct replacements? Kluson? Grover? Gotoh? I'm thinking about changing all my chrome to nickel on one of mine to give it a more matsumoku vibe...

I used rotomatics. Added more weight to the head, but worth it in the staying in tune dept. Hated to lose the vintage vibe, but looks take a back seat to functionality. I added a Bigsby to my latest. I love this thing!!

Yeah I agree about the head needing a bit more weight. I think I would go with the Gotoh Nickel vintage style replacements on my Peerless and maybe go for Grovers on my Unsung. I'd like the Peerless guitar to eventually be kitted out with all nickel hardware but nickel dogear covers don't seem to come so easy.

I have an 05 MIK Cherry Casino that I changed the original tuners with a new set of Genuine Vitage style Kluson's, same great vintage look everything matches up and it stays in tune like a champ!
