Nickel Plated tuners for Casino

I would like to put some nickel plated tuners on my Elitist. It comes with the chrome Grovers as you all know. However I find the Grovers first of all a bit crowded and actually prefer the look of the original Kluson tuners that a frined has on his original '66 Casino. Now his tuners seem no to have the accuracy of the Grovers but then again his tuners are old and perhaps not quite as precise as the Grovers. I was thinking that the Klusons being made today are very precise and high quality and do have the Nickel finish (that apprpriatly match the pickups). Has any one here compared the 2 and can comment on the quality and what model number to be ordered?

Personally' date=' I would stick with the Grovers. You can get them in Nickel 18:1 ratio Item #: 102-18N. You can also get Kluson/Tone Pros with the correct size shaft (model TPKB3-N) like this:

Check with Twang, he might be able to get either of them for you at a good price. If not, email or PM me and I'll order them for you and save you some $$$.

I believe Gotoh do Kluson style nickel tuners too:

Yes, excellent quality as well. Do you know if they make them with the Grover sized shaft and screw down bushings? If not, he would have to get a set of adapter bushings.

Another option would be genuine Gibsons.

I swapped the stock chrome 'Grovers' on all three of my Elitists for the nickel 102-18Ns. HUGE improvement. not only in looks, but in 'feel' as well; not sure if these were NOS that the distributor had lying around but they had the original non-metric dimensions and are definitely a lot better than the Korean stuff Epiphone uses.

Thanks all. Yes I suppose to not have to do any extra drilling I would have to replace with the nickel Grovers. The Goto's and the Kluson might require some additional holes etc. Somehow to my eye the Kluson just look right on that headstock. My main question is are they of the same quality in terms of keeping in tune and precision?

18:1 rotomatics are hard to beat.

You know, if you want to get that 'vintage Casino' look you might want to try a set of mini Grovers. The smaller knobs would look a lot more like the chrome buttons on the original Casinos.

Try out the Grover #136N set, just put them on my Riviera. I had to enlarge the hole, but you won't have that problem. Same screw pattern as the Klusons, with the vintage buttons, also 14-1 ratio too...
