for my 40th... my wife wants to get me a gibson...

Recommended Posts

and what i want is an angus young or a vos with vibrola... the thing is that almost everybody complaints about the tuners, and these guitars are not cheap!!!!!!!!!

Should I get the epi with the vibrola used and maybe get for my bd a 335?

Take Gibson now - worry about Tuners later. You're going to get a great guitar that you want. If it turns out the tuning isn't all that great then you can always invest in a like for like replacement that will cost you under $100. My housemate has a Gibson SG Faded and his Gibson Tuners haven't presented any problems.

$60 tuners aren't a reason to turn down a very nice guitar... that's what I paid for a set of Gibson greenkeys/Deluxe/whatever they're called. You can also spend $80 on identical-looking "Historic" tuners.

If your concern about tuning stems from the Vibrola unit, I can tell you that my experience with it on my Firebird VII has been excellent. No tuning issues whatsoever ... wish I could say the same for the Bigsby on my Gretsch although that could also be partly caused by the floating bridge on that particular guitar.

That said ... the Vibrola is not for dive bombing! You can, however, give it a pretty fair wiggle with no problem.

Lovely gift from a woman who's obviously crazy about you ... make sure you cherish and take care of both!

Thanks. She knows Ill appreciate a gibson since i have fender and epis...

Yeah, definitely will take an SG.

The truth is, i like guitar with trems, mostly for aesthetic reasons and a vibrola looks great on a sg.

Yeah my wife is great and so is my kid.

You have and awesome wife! I'd go for the VOS SG with Vibrola. I have a G-400 with Vibrola and I have never had any issues with it. They look like a class act, no doubt. Personally, I like the feel of the Vibrola over any other trem that I have used. You gotta give us lots of pics after it happens.

Thanks, Z! Maybe one of these days I'll actually own one! For now ... I remain true to my quest: To Seek The Holy Grail! (and to chop down the largest tree in the forrest ... with a herring!)

my vote goes for the edwards - seriously! absolutely top notch workmanship, i have played 7 before and all 7 are fantastic! FLAWLESS fit and finish, comfortable C shape neck as compared to the chunky Gibson one - and seymour duncan pups - a little too generic but it plays really well!
