s360guitarist Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Hey All, Just brainstorming about putting P90's in my G-400. Gibson makes the SG Classic which goes for 1000 at GC. Will soapbars fit in the G-400 routes where the humbuckers are currently located? I would need to run them so they would be hum canceling in the middle position. Just a thought...
Sjael Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Soapbars won't fit in a Humbucker hole, but you *can* get P90s in humbucker-sized packaging. Gibson calls them P94s I do believe. I also think Seymour-Duncan do some HB-size P90s. A friend of mine put some GFS Mean 90s in his G400 and it sounds awesome, just as an aside.
s360guitarist Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 Thanks for the reply. I knew you could HB sized 90's. I was just unaware of the size issue. Yep I hear the Mean 90's from GFS are good. A lot of people love the Dream 90. I have heard a sample of the Tonerider Rebel 90 and they are great too.
pohatu771 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 If you have a large-pickguard G-400 (I don't know if that's the standard or a reissue model), check how it's routed... you may be able to replace the pickguard with one cut for P-90s.
FrankS1281734010 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 let me know if you go the p-94 route, i have one i've been trying to get rid of.
Bender 4 Life Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Seymour Duncans 'bucker sized P-90's are called "Phat Cats". give them a listen on S/D's audio page.........OMG they're RAW !!!!!!!!! I've been beating my brain deciding what to put a set of these bad boys in........ I gotta find out if they come in gold........they'd sound WICKED in my Sheraton II.
Stevie Nazarenie Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 he also does: SP90-1 Vintage Soapbar SP90-2 Hot Soapbar SP90-3 Custom Soapbar and the phat cat. SPH90-1 Phat Cat™ http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/audio-samples/humbuckers_and/ and of course the p rails. although gfs are cheaper!
