Which One? Your thoughts...

Hey again, i was thinking of getting a casino, not an elitist because it is out of my price range, so i'll settle for the standard. finish wise im not sure which one to get, the vintage sunburst or natural finish. Will the sound quality be different even if the colour is different? thanks

Hi Nathan and welcome to the forum...

I'd say the age old expression "you get what you pay" for applies with these guitars but at the end of the day, its all about your budget.

My suggestion,...go and play both guitars and you will hear and see the difference....

thanks' date=' but since im not cnt afford the elitlist, i know the sound quality will drop, does it really matter if i get a chinese made one? are they really that bad[/quote']

It kind of depends what you're used to. If you have a bunch of high-end or vintage guitars, you will definitely notice the difference in feel and sound with a Chinese Casino.

On the other hand, it IS a $600 guitar. It's NOT a piece of crap. It plays very well, sounds pretty good, and is a lot of fun. I love mine, and play it a LOT.

If you browse around here, you'll find that a lot of folks like to start with the cheaper models and slowly replace bits of hardware as their budgets allow. If you want a Casino, and don't have the cash for the Elitist, there's nothing wrong with getting a Chinese one.

Not sure what colour to get though.

Cherry?

Nothing wrong with the Chinese-made Casinos in my opinion. In fact' date=' I'm in the market for one myself.

With the Elitist series in general (of which the Casino is now the last of the line), I think you are getting the quality of a Gibson for a much lower price (notwithstanding arguments about nitro vs poly finishes).

But that [b']does not[/b] make the standard Casino crap. The guitar itself is nicely made, and the stock Epiphone P90 pick-ups are superb. At some point in the future you may wish to change the tuners and possibly replace the nut, but with even a bit of minor set-up tweaking, a new Chinese Casino will delight you straight out of the box, I'm sure.

My advice would be to buy a korean one second hand and spend the money you save on a really good set up, maybe even an upgrade of the electrics and machine heads. A Casino over here retails at around £450 but you can easily pick one up for £300-350 and spend the money saved on making it sound and play better. I have owned 5 Korean Casinos and they've all sounded great and lasted the distance gigging week in week out.

My main concern with the standard casino is the stock tuners and selector switch. I would keep an eye on craiglist and the second hand market.

I'm selling a Cherry Casino 2006 Korean made in the Peerless Plant with the modern moulded Epiphone hard shell case. If you'd like a cherry one PM me and I can send you pictures and what price I'm looking for it. It is in 10/10 mint condition.

The finish is really up to you. Personally I really like the VS. A lot of us here are old gezzers (sp?) and have descent jobs so we can afford more expensive guitars. In your case, if you were to save for the Elitist, by the time you have the money they might not be making them any more. Go for what you can afford. They are by no means CHEAP guitars.

I prefer vitnage sunburst too. 4 of my 5 have been VS and I still own two of them. My favourite two guitars. They're korean but they're still great little players as far as i'm concerned. In an ideal world we'd all have a top of the line guitar but there's nothing wrong with starting out, or being content with a standard Epi model.

I have a Dot in VS (chinese) and once I got it set up and changed the nut, it plays great. I also own a couple of acoustic Taylors, and the quality of the Chinese Dot is nowhere near the Taylors. However, that doesn't mean the Dot doesn't play great and easy and sound great.

The sound is primarily based on the PUPs and their quality (and which amp you are playing through), so you'll need to also review all that. As for the Dot, it sounds great through my Roland X20.

As for me, if I had the $$ I'd go for the elitist. Since you don't, the Chinese Casino will be fine. I had the chance to get the VS or the natural and I chose the VS. So, there is my opinion on that.

Finally Casinos are up on "the bay" all the time. That is another avenue, if you are willing to buy a guitar before you play it.

Whatever you decide, enjoy what you get. And remember guitars are meant to be played!
