Svet
I've never met a guitar I didn't like! If it's got strings it's a thing of beauty!
carverman
you can get amazing tones out of cheap equipment! I'd chose a Gibson mainly because they have the more beautiful finishes and the headstock everyone seems to be drooling about. A Gibson is just a little bit better (I think) than an Epi. They're just better made guitars' date=' both look- and sound-wise.... I absolutely don't care if it's a Gibson but if I had the money I'd buy a Gibson.[/quote'] don't forget the brag factor with the Gibson name on the headstock..It's like owning a Rolex watch instead of a Timex. :-

twangster007
Froglips: gretsch makes a fine hollowbody guitar. and it is a buyers market right now so you can get one at a good price. If that is what your leaning toward I say get the gretsch.
charlie brown
Speaking of Gibson "Double Cut's," these are my least expensive (at time of purchase) Gibsons, and also the 3 that get played, consistently, the most. I love all my guitars! Even so, I seem to go to these, over and over, for tone, playability, and comfort. Plus, they look great, too! CB
mrjones200x
Man ive gas big time for a TV yellow DC! Cheers for the pics fellas! I got my Gibby Les Paul cos there is no other model like it. The BFG. I got it for its versatility. P90 in the neck and Burstbucker in the bridge! Awesome Duo together. Really good value guitar at £650 2nd hand same as an elitest (sometimes). Very good finish to me. Rough and ready. No prettyness to get in the way. Wood with hardly any paint and hardly any laquer sounds great. This guitar is lovely acoustically too. Chambered body so nice and light! Epi doest do this guitar so i got a gibby! Wow good choice, i got everything i wanted and that braging for free now!!! cowgard
I've only been playing a few months and have bought three guitars(I know it's a sickness). I'm talking out of the box set up, playability and sound to my ear. Number one is an Epi Les Paul Studio Special Edition, Number two Gibson Robot Flying V, and last but not least an Epi Riviera P93 SE. I'm not sorry I bought the V because I've loved them since I was a kid but dollar for dollar I'll take the Epiphones. Even the Riviera is nice after I did some work on it. mrjones200x
What amp do you play through cowgard? Just wondered as youd notice how good epis are through a great amp. I found my pickups were slightly muddy through a crap amp and a good amp. changed them for a local companys pickups (Irongear) and it made the guitar loads better. Playing through my Orange Tiny terror really shows how good a guitar is. Through my Vox AD30VT both my humbucler type les pauls sounded very similar as the amp wasnt good enough for the guitar to shine. Good amp but not as good as a full tube amp imo. Lord Summerisle
The only Gibson I would buy right now (if I had the means) would be a 'real' Firebird: i.e. through neck; mahogany wings; banjo tuners; mini-humbuckers. However, if Epiphone made one of those and got it right, then I'd probably buy one of those instead. As I've become older, I have begun to worry less and less about the moniker on the headstock / place of manufacture / and all the other nonsense. I remember buying my first US made Telecaster at the age of 20, and thinking "wow, I finally own a "real" Fender." These days I'd like to think that I could go into the store with a budget in mind, and come out with the best guitar for that price - whatever it is / wherever it's made. Love my Hagstrom, love my Casino - both made in China. Combined cost (with quality hard shell cases) = $1300. I'm a happy man. If I still worried about "vanity" at all, I can tell you that I've had more compliments at gigs about that Hagstrom than any other guitar I've ever owned. I went with the AL 3000, instead of 3100 because it came in Honeyburst instead of Cherryburst only........i'm still not sure about the abalone inlays, but I bet I get used to them, and it has the same upgrades and improvements as the 3100............ David [/quote'] Well, I spoke too soon. I went to adjust the truss rod in the Epi Studio (back it off a bit for some low fret buzz) and found that the truss rod is completely loose and rattling around in the neck . So the new order is 1 Gibson V 2 Epi Riviera. No #3, the Studio is on it's way back to MF for a refund. Thank goodness for the 45 day return policy. I got 7 days left. Dr. Killmore
Mr. Jones, that BFG is friggin' sweet. I didn't care for the looks of those when they first came out. I had only seen that dirty looking black finish in pictures. That natural finish is really something else. It sort of reminds me of snake skin. I'm liking that guitar a lot. I wonder what they're going for on the used market right now.
mrjones200x
Cheap as chips at the min. I paid 650 pounds for mine 6 months ago. There was a ugly black one on ebay that just wouldnt sell and it got relisted at 450 pounds! Theres a gold top like mine on there for 800 which is steep as they were 850 new i think ages ago! Theres a red one signed by Les Paul too for 2000! was 1500 until he passed away. Some people just wanna cash in on his death. its been listed for 3 months and still not sold, people aint stupid! Very good guitar imo. cheaper than a std by a lot and yes the finish isnt everyones cup of tea but i love it. pickup combo is great too! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gibson-BFG-Gold-Flame-Pre-Owned_W0QQitemZ250498662914QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV?hash=item3a52e24202&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gibson-Les-Paul-BFG-Signed-by-Les-Paul-Electric-Guitar_W0QQitemZ160362679796QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item25565c4df4&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Dr. Killmore
In some of the pics I've seen, there seems to be a block of wood, near the neck joint, that doesn't match the rest of the top. What is that? Is it part of the neck joint? Is it part of the neck it's self? I've seen it quite a few times
mrjones200x
If your talking about on the right hand side looking at the front about were frets 18-22 are the its part of the routing on the. Top. Looks wierd and dont know why its there but they all got it. Might be hard to sand right up to the neck so its done on machine first to make process easier. The top is as it is straight after first machining so it feels lumpy and bumpy but smooth. The back of the neck is like normal.
Hungrycat
Gibson better than Epi? Hmmmm...... I fyou REALLY break it down, probably not by much. That being said, I'm a vain prideful person. I want Fenders, Not Squires! I want Gibsons Not Epiphones! But Alas! 'Tis not to be! For I have this great quantity of GAS, Yet so few monies to cure it! Is this Fate that hath forsaken me to a collection of "cheap" guitars?!? Out Damned Gretsch! Out I say! But beauty be in the eye of the beholder, and that I say, is all the be required!
