Traded my Casino (for something unexpected)

Well, as the thread title suggests, I parted company with my Casino. I felt a bit sad at the time, but I just couldn't get used to that massive neck.

I went to my favorite local guitar store fully expecting to trade the Casino for a Hagstrom Swede, but that didn't happen. I spotted something I really didn't know anything about, played it for 45 minutes, and couldn't put it down. Well, I did put it down and tried a Swede (again), and then I picked up the mystery (to me) guitar, and struck a deal.

She's a St Blues Mississippi Bluesmaster. The crappy photographs I just took (below) don't do her gold top and beautiful mahogany body justice.

From what I can gather, if a Les Paul and a Telecaster got it on one night, this would be their illegitimate love-child. 24 3/4 scale, with a bolt-on neck (not that you'd notice, it's as tight as a set-neck), 2 humbuckers and a 6-in-a-line headstock with vintage-style Klusons.

Here's the link to the guitar's spec at the St Blues website: http://www.saintblues.com/Mississippi-Bluesmaster-p-1.html

I was very fortunate that my friend at the local store gave me a generous trade-in on my nearly new Casino. I guess buying this new guitar reminded me of the obvious point that buying in person is better than buying on-line...try before you buy.

Anyway, I'm in love with my new Telecaster/Les Paul assemblage piece.

Spent an hour this morning messing around with the new guitar through my Line 6 Toneport. Here's what she sounds like (one or two unfortunate clangers - but it's just a bit of noodlin'...not 'serious' work...) -

That was the first thought that entered my mind when I saw your pics, was "unholy union", LOL. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Tele necks, though, as that was my first guitar when I started playing around '78 or thereabouts. Your new guitar sounds pretty nice, looks comfortable too. Almost breaks my heart when I hear of someone giving up a Casino, though, as I have always longed for one (and some day, however long it takes, I shall have one), but I'm glad your happy with your new toy. Congrats!

Intersting trade...both in appearance, and sonically, as well. Still looking for that perfect guitar, huh Lord? ;>)

Glad you're "in love," anyway. That's what counts (for, as long as it lasts). One reason I have as many guitars as

I do, is not because I feel the "need" for that many, but I always regretted selling what I have...in the past, and

decided...No more! I (like a lot of us, I would guess?) seem to go back and forth, with preferences, moods, etc.,

so...by keeping what I buy, I don't experience that "regret," anymore. And, when I'm in the mood, for a Tele,

or "Lucille," SG...whatever, there's one there! Although, at times, it does seem "foolish," to own so many, when

you can't give them the attention, you'd like, and they deserve...all the time. So...who knows, what the real answer

is? I sure don't! LOL!

Well, to tell you the truth Charlie, I've been through far too much gear over the years. I don't think I've ever actually made money selling a guitar, and like you, I've reached the point where I can reflect on ones I've sold and wished I hadn't. However, I have set myself a limit of 4 electric guitars (and 1 acoustic), and my collection can grow no larger than that. In fact, 4 is really 1 too many...I don't really need a Strat and a Tele, but I like having the Strat around, even if the Tele is my 'workhorse.' The Casino I bought recently was a mistake. I bought it because I wanted one, but found that every time I went for an archtop, I still went straight to my Hagstrom Viking. In hindsight, I should have just returned the Casino and got (most) of my money back. This St Blues I have just bought fulfills a lot of gas...it's got a bit of Les Paul vibe, but it's also as light as an SG. The neck pick-up sounds very Gibson-esque, the bridge p'up is far more twangy and Fender-y. I know all guitars have a honeymoon period, but I have a good feeling about this one... Either way, I am done buying guitars for a long, long time. Time to enjoy the ones I have, rather than gassing for others...

Keeping your collection to a reasonable level is good! I (sometimes) wish I had done that, but now...I can't think of which guitar(s)

I could part with, easily. I've become "attached" to all of them, for one reason or another. Weird...but true! I guess, I just love

"guitars?!" ;>b

It is rediculous to have so many guitars isn't it? My wife does not see the need for so many. I don't either but I can't help it. I did downsize when I traded the 2 squier tele's I had for 1 strat. I guess thats a start but I know that I will add at least 3 more electrics and 2 more acoustics and then I am done! Oh and 2 amps. LOL! Then I AM DONE!!! Oh I forgot about the pedals too. LOL! Dammnit, I can't stop. HELP! LOL!
