Does anyone know if the Tribute Plus serial numbers have already been deciphered? [confused]

I put mine into the link posted above and it says mine was built in 2003. I don't believe it has been updated to include the Tribute Plus just yet.

BTW F319963 for mine. Black Cherry!!

Not much is known about this factory, guitars made here are only sold in Europe. However, the production quality at this factory is said to be superior to its Chinese and Korean counterparts.

By the way, i also knew that page, but i think many doesn´t [thumbup]

Thought it´s cool to know that about my Epiphone Riviera:

Guitar Info

Your guitar was made at the

Peerless Plant, Korea

February 1995

Production Number: 4095

Peerless Korea Co., Ltd.

Peerless Korea Co., Ltd. is a Korean-Japanese joint venture company headquartered in South Korea and has been in the guitar-manufacturing industry since 1970. With the core expertise in guitar manufacturing initiated from Japan, Peerless has provided 2.9 million pieces of guitars in the worldwide market so far. Peerless had once manufactured 30,000 pieces of guitars per month in the past in order to meet the order quantity, however have gradually changed their focus from quantity quality. With this in mind they have cut down their manufacturing capacity to 2,000 pieces per month just to ensure the high quality of our products. Peerless produces guitars via OEM for brands such as Epiphone by Gibson, Alvarez, Hoyer and Gretsch by Fender. Note: While not explicitly stated it is believed that Peerless is part owned by Aria of Japan.

I'd forgotten about Guitar Dater. I hadn't been to that site in years. This thread reminded me of its existence.

To be fair, if one reads the fine print it stresses that it isn't a database, it's just a simple computer programme. Also, there is mention of ongoing work to update the Epiphone section of the site. It must be difficult for the programmer to keep up to date with changes in practice by manufacturers, especially when large changes bring about arcane distinctions, such as Epi's shift from EE, DW, UC, etc. prefixes to 2 digit prefixes around 2010 or whenever it was.

Guitar Dater is also an interesting piece of Web 2.0 "With enough people contributing to the project we will be to find out what model guitars were made at which factories." It does not profess to be foolproof.

Ultimately, I suppose, of the guitar playing population, how many guitarists actually obsess over date/factory of manufacture? Probably a small percentage, (there being, after all, a definite distinction between people who are guitarists and people who are guitarists with a detailed interest in guitars - the latter being the type of people who frequent guitar forums).

For the average inquirer, Guitar Dater does a pretty good job, I think. I just grabbed an example serial number at random from ebay (a 2006 Strat in this case): http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Fender-Classic-Player-Stratocaster-60-s-Strat-Custom-Shop-Designed-1960s-/121218903771?pt=Guitar&hash=item1c3935aedb

Guitar Dater says:

Your guitar was made at the

Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico

in the Year(s): 2006 - 2007

That's not bad. For the casual inquirer, it's probably a useful site. With these things comes a certain degree of required intelligence on the part of the person asking the question. If you type in the number of a guitar you've just purchased, new, from Guitar Center, and it tells you that it was made in 1965, or if it produces a future date in the next decade, it's reasonable to assume there is a gremlin in the works, somewhere, rather than assuming you've picked up a valuable and wholly unexpected relic, or have finally found proof of time travel...

That's a weird serial for an 86. We would need to see pics of the guitar and serial to make a positive ID.

Hello! I realize this is an old thread but, can someone tell me what year my Epiphone FT-120 was made from the serial number? The number is 570035. As far as I can decipher; from the information I can find it's made between 1976-1979. It is not the blue label which is American made but, the white and brown Norlin label stating Japan as the origin. I've found a lot of information on this guitar but, each source I've found has conflicting opinions as to the date. I'm selling it to a friend and he doesn't believe me that it's from the 70's as it is in mint shape; almost as if just bougt brand new. Any info would be appreciated. Will attach picture of guitar and label.

Thanks,

Tim

Epiphone serials from that time often did not have any manufacturing info contained in them.  If they do, however,  the first number would indicate the year. The 5 *may* indicate 1975, which could be interpreted as being built in 1975 for the 1976 model year...but it also may mean nothing.  It's really hard to say. The good news is that it is most definitely Japanese from the 1970s. No doubt about it.

Can I trace the model of an Epiphone through its serial number?
I looking into a Epiphone Studio Custom Shop in Pelham Blue and wanted to verify its autenticity, since the owner doesn't have the propor documents anymore.

No, all the serial number will tell you is where, when and what production number.

Hi everyone. New member, just joined. I've got an Epiphone Les Paul cherry burst that I bought many years ago. What does the serial number tell me? It's  S9323862. I've tried decoding the number, but haven't been able to figure it out. Maybe I'm not doing it correctly. Thanks for any info.

Hi,

S- Sammick, Korea

93, 1993

2, February

3862, the production number.

Usually the month is stated as two digits so would be 02, sometimes the years were one digit and would it would have started witha 3. That's why the problems reading them, especially if you use somewhere like guitardater.

Thanks, Matt. My confusion was because of the statements that sometimes the year was represented with two numbers and sometimes by one. Also the same being said about the month. After reading things, on several sites, I was leaning heavily towards what you said,

S- Sammick, Korea

93, 1993

2, February

3862, the production number.

Again, thanks for responding and sharing your knowledge.
