pizzaboy
Lord Summersisle, There's a Hagstrom dealer in Edinburgh and I was in there trying one of the Strat HSS models 2 weeks ago. I saw the hagstroms but didn;t consider them as I hadn't heard of them, so was concerned about any future value. The price for the Viking is the same as for a Sheraton II or a Casino. I know that sounds a bit harsh, but I don't mean it that way. Epiphones (and Hagstroms) are made in China. In Epiphone's case they are also made in very high volumes. They will only ever be "used" guitars when you come to sell one (unless it's some super-rare model.) Possibly an exception to this rule can also be made for Epiphone's (discontinued) Japanese-made Elitist range. If you sell a modern Epi (or equivalent) for cash, I think around 50% of the new purchase price is about all you can expect. A little more in trade, perhaps... But the good news is that these are guitars to be played and enjoyed! They're never going to be stuck in a glass case as a collector's piece. And if you had, say, a vintage Gibson ES-335 or a new Epiphone Sheraton, which would you take with you to your bar gig on a Saturday night? Unless you are a vintage guitar collector, I'd say buy a guitar and enjoy it, and don't worry too much about future resale prices. Johnny.
pizzaboy
I know you're right, I need to buy for current pleasure not future value, after all, I've never sold a guitar, i just seem to accumulate them and let's be honest £450 isn't exactly mega-bucks, whether I make a good or bad decision. leicester35
If you're looking for a Sheraton try and find a lightly used Korean one made by Unsung. Way better than the current offerings. You can see and feel the difference in the neck alone. Not sure about Lucilles but I think they were also Korean made at one time.
