EPISG
Hi All I have recently got an Epiphone Cherry SG, serial 903142 and I am seeking some info on it. If it helps it has a Gibson type open book headstock on it. I have tried the Guitar dater with no luck Thanks
EPISG
Does the serial mean that it was made in 1990? Any advise welcome
Sjael
If it's got the Gibby headstock, then it's more than likely made in Japan. Just what plant or year it was made in I can't say though. Using the serial number layout that MIJs have* used before, that would be a March 2009. I'm doutful about that though, but it's entirely possible.
EPISG
Thanks for your reply. Its an oldish Sg I think (not 2009), will get some photos up when i get a chance, thing is it plays and feels better than my gibson, it did have a Bigsby type tremlo on it that i took off. Cant get on with tremlo. not sure what to do about the holes it left though.
Sjael
Well I know they were made in 2000, so my best guess is the 9 indicates 1999. (The serial number breakdown I've seen in the past is X-XX-XXX/Year-Month-Production number) Whenever and wherever it was made, you've got a fantastic guitar by the sound of it! Guest icantbuyafender
Im betting she's a 1999 japanese SG. And Im betting you will never get tired of it. The japanese epiphones were rock solid guitars.
Sjael
So we're at a (albeit small) consensus then, it's a March '99 japan-made SG. And if I'm not mistaken that would be at the Fuji-gen plant?
Suicidehummer
Sorry guys, that would be a Korean made 1989 G-400. (Bigsby, knobs, and PUPs not stock) Epiphone Catalog, 1989:
Sjael
Now that is interesting, never seen one of those before! That does indeed sound a lot more likely. Unless it IS an MIJ with a Bigsby slapped on
EPISG
I will get some photos soon as i can, it does say made in Japan on the back of the headstock though. Possibly someone put the bigsby on it as there are grover machine heads on it, I also have the originals to put back on.
EPISG
Thanks for your photos, but this one looks exactly like a gibson.
Sjael
Woo, I'm calling it a Fugi-gen 1999 G400 then. :) Just picked up on this; it has a different serial number format too. Should've noticed earlier.
