caspersond Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Can anyone provide me with information on an Epiphone acoustic/electric that says FA-250. I think the model says riviera. I dont have anymore info available.
Parabar Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Something seems a little off here. Is the guitar you're talking about a thinline double cutaway with 2 pickups? (the "Riviera" designation would make one think so). If so, it's not an acoustic-electric, but a hollowbody electric (and this thread should be moved to Epiphone Electrics). There was an Epiphone model like that called an EA-250 --- is it possible the "F" is really an "E" with the bottom rubbed/worn off? These were cheap Japanese made guitars (Matsumoku factory) in the late 60's and early 70's with bolt-on necks and not really true to the Epiphone model names (Casino, Riviera, etc.) which they sometimes sported.
TommyK Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 You mean this one: >>>>http://www.matsumoku.org/models/epiphone/ea-250/pics.html<<<<
caspersond Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Yes, the picture from tommyk looks like it from what I can tell. I do not have the guitar available, just the info I posted and was intereseted in trying to get it. What can you tell me about the EA-250 version in regards to quality and pricing?
Parabar Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Unless you can get it REALLY cheap (like $100 or less) I'd recommend against it. They've been going for around $250 on eBay, mostly I think to older players nostalgic for the guitars they owned when they were starting out. For that kind of money, you could get a modern Dot, which are FAR superior in construction, playability and tone. When you hear people talking about "crappy cheap Japanese guitars," this is one of the ones they're referring to. There are certainly excellent Japanese made guitars from that era (some of the "lawsuit" models are superb) --- this ain't one of 'em.
